A Message from the Principal

Mrs Pauline Long

Dear Parents and Carers,

Anzac Day

Thank you to the families and students who attended the Anzac Day March on Sunday. The ceremony was a very moving tribute to our fellow Australians who have served in war. Our students were fine ambassadors for our school. I hope next year we have even more students supporting this important community event.

Student Voice

Every Monday I meet with our senior students in Years 5 & 6 to discuss upcoming events and ways we can improve our school together.  I am amazed at how thoughtful the students' questions and discussion points are. An example of an initiative from our discussions is to have volunteer student referees for lunch time soccer games. I thank our senior students for helping the younger students to learn how to play together happily and follow the rules of a game.

Reading to your children

This term the teachers are focusing on ensuring all our students are displaying growth in their reading. I encourage all parents of Infants children to read to your children every day and for our primary students to set aside a quiet time each evening for your children to read independently. If you value reading so will your children. There is a great deal of research on the importance of reading at home and I hope you will take a few minutes to read the attached ‘Parent Guide to Reading’ from the Australian Primary English Teaching Association.

“It is the joy and love of sharing a good book on a nightly basis that sets the foundation for reading success”

Confirmation

Please keep the students in Years 5 & 6 who are receiving the sacrament of Confirmation this weekend in your prayers. We look forward to welcoming Bishop Michael Kennedy to our parish for this important event.

Have a wonderful week and I hope you get time to read a good book.
