Wellbeing

We have many wonderful things happening at OLHC to support our children’s wellbeing and learning. Passive Play, Fun Zone run by 4 Year 3/4 children, SEL lessons in Respectful Relationships and now the wonderful SWELL multi-age art sessions being facilitated by Jen and Faith, two of our wonderful parents.

Now that our school is finally open again to everyone, please come and have a look at the results of our SWELL art sessions in the main corridor near Therese’s office. This creative outcome of the children’s learning will continue to grow.

Please read what our Wellbeing leaders, Sam and Ally, have to say about their learning in the art room during Art SWELL.

My SWELL group joined with Jen and Faith in the art room to do some wonderful art. We were making collages of endangered animals together with our prep buddies. We all learned about our animal that we chose. I learned about the Hawksbill Turtle and how it lives in tropical areas. I really enjoyed it and I hope you all enjoy this opportunity too.

On Wednesday last week we participated in SWELL, and for SWELL we did art, and for art, we made a bleaching clay coral reef.  We made this under the supervision of parents Jen and Faith.

Coral bleaching is when the water temperatures are hotter than usual. When that happens, the coral starts to lose its colour. My family learnt about this first from my trip to the Great Barrier Reef in the holidays and I learnt more about it from Jen and Faith.

To start the art session, we made flat bases to put our coral reef on and then we were given our clay. To make the coral, we just twisted the clay into all funny shapes and sizes and at the end it did look just as beautiful as the actual Great Barrier Reef! I wish I was in Group Three who are doing SWELL this week! I know you will have heaps of fun with great learning too!

As Therese mentioned last week in the newsletter, our school is raising funds for Prader-Willi Syndrome Association of Victoria to further their research into PWS. I share a quote taken from their website.

‘The difference they have made to so many people is just extraordinary and I know there are so many others that would benefit from their work. But they need more funding to make that happen.’

At Our Lady’s we want to contribute to this research so we plan to have an orange dress up day on Monday 17th May. Orange is the chosen colour for the Prader Willi Association.

So please start collecting your gold coin donations and finding anything orange to wear on your feet, heads, wrists or body.

We look forward to being as orange as we can on May 17th.

Have a great week!
