Year 8 Technology Mandatory Class

Mrs Taylor’s Year 8 Technology Mandatory class are undertaking a unit where they examine the properties of building bridges. So far the class has mastered the pylon challenge of supporting a 3.3kg brick 1cm above the bench with a1/4 of an A4 piece of paper for 3 days! Below is Isaac and Larry’s solution to the pylon challenge.

The first bridge challenge was to make a bridge spanning 150mm using 2 pieces of A4 paper. This bridge eventually held over 3 kg in weights!

Our second bridge challenge was to make a 100g bridge spanning 150mm from paddle pop sticks and hot glue. We wanted to see how much weight different bridge structures could support. Our results varied from 9.8kg to over 80 kg! Shanaya and Ava’s bridge held 87kg.

Preston, Riley and Mason’s bridge came a close second in the competition.

Next weeks challenge is to make a 50g bridge spanning 150mm from paddle pop sticks and hot glue. Kane and Dajarn's prototype bridge can already hold over 60kg!

Junior School Great Aussie Bush Camp Excursion

Stage 2 students had a fantastic time on their excursion to the Great Aussie Bush Camp. They had the chance to do lots of great activities including, archery, bushcraft, swimming at Jimmy’s Beach and climbing the huge sand dunes at Dark Point. The favourite activities by far were the giant swing and the dual flying fox.
