Positive Behaviour for Learning Lessons

Each week we focus on a lesson from our Behaviour Matrix.

Week 10 - This week we are going to revisit keeping hands and feet to your self.

Our PBL (Positive Behaviour for Learning). Last week our team met and looked at incident data.  A large number of  incidents that we have identified are that students are reacting to things by putting hands on each other.  We focus on self regulation and have taught strategies to students this term for this, unfortunately the number of these incidents are still too high.  All students and staff have the right to come to school and feel safe.  All students also have the responsibility to also follow school expectations and treat others in a safe and respectful manner.   We will continue to teach students that have engaged in this behaviour the skills of self- control, self regulation and empathy in an attempt to support safety in school.  There will be consequences for students that cannot improve and behaviour in a safe manner at school.  We are asking for families to support this with conversations at home and teaching children these skills also.

Hands are not for hitting activities are included here for you to  share with your children.

Make a list of all the good things that our hands are for & some strategies that your child can try at school.

Teachers will also be teaching students how to use the High 5 to support them in the playground

Action for Happiness

This month we're encouraging you to get active, get outdoors and take care of your body!  Let's reap the benefits of getting our bodies moving and breathing more deeply as a result of exercising, laughing and even singing! We don't all need to run marathons - there are simple things we can all do to take care of our bodies - for example unplugging from technology, getting outside and - importantly - making sure we get enough sleep!.

Brain Boost & SEL

Over the next few weeks during Brain Boost lessons students in Prep - Yr 2 will be learning about having a growth mindset.  Making mistakes, failures & challenges.  They will be learning about perseverance and how they can train their brains through practise. Students in Yrs 3 - 6 will look at mindfulness.

During Social Emotional Learning Lessons students are covering information about their feelings, self control and problem solving.  If you would like more specific information please contact your classroom teacher or refer to class newsletters from our last newsletter.

Here is a look at what these lessons look like in classrooms at our school.
