Education in Faith

Kindness

Our theme for this school year is “Kindness”. This year we will focus on practising kindness, to see it in everyday situations, and to celebrate it with our peers. We encourage you to have lots of chats at home too about acts of kindness your child/ren see throughout the day.

Kindness follows nicely from our 2021 theme “Love One Another”.

Religious Education and Inquiry for 2022

Our teachers work hard to integrate our RE and Inquiry topics where possible. By working under one topic in both areas, we will establish stronger connections and deeper learning for the students. A key aspect of curriculum design in a Catholic school is to challenge learners to explore and consider deep questions, and big ideas.

An inquiry-based approach to learning invites student voice in shaping their curriculum. Part of their learning is driven by the areas of need within each class and level, as well as the interests of the individual students. Through inquiry-based learning, we aim to instil skills in our students as lifelong learners.

For 2022, the term topics will be as follows:

Term 1 – Responsibility

Religious Education – Morality and Justice

Inquiry – SWELL and Civics & Citizenship

Term 2 – Creation is All Around Us

Religious Education – God, Religion and Life

Inquiry – Earth and Space Science

Term 3 – Our Stories

Religious Education – Scripture and Jesus

Inquiry – History

Term 4 – Journeys

Religious Education – Scripture and Jesus

Inquiry – Geography

Term 1 - Responsibility

The concept of responsibility can be discussed at the different levels from Prep - Grade 6. For our new Prep students, they are learning how to be responsible for their own belongings and actions and how they can work together safely and happily. As we progress towards the older year levels, teachers will incorporate the Civics & Citizenship and how we work together to become good global citizens.

This topic lends itself well to our SWELL term and Make Jesus Real Program. As we settle into a new school year, we learn to make new friends, how to work in our new classrooms and what we need to do for one another to feel happy and safe at school.

Thank you - Mini Vinnies Giving Tree 2021

A very big thank you to all the families who donated vouchers for last year’s St Vincent De Paul ‘Mini Vinnies’ Advent Giving Tree. In December our local St Vincent De Paul conference delivered food hampers to 56 families in need (with about 92 adults and 58 children). Thanks to the generosity of our community, they were able to give gift cards to each of these children.

Baptism Preparation Program

If there are any students Prep-Grade 6 who are interested in receiving the Sacrament of Baptism this year, please email me at ctaig@olacheltenham.catholic.edu.au

For any interested students, there is a 12 lesson program in which we meet once a week to prepare to receive the Sacrament. The program will begin in Week 5 of this term; please let me know by Friday 19th February if your child is interested.
