Donations to support school programs
Two very generous Boorowa businesses/organisations have graciously chosen to support Boorowa Central School with financial support to ensure that wellbeing programs can continue to run for all students.
Kayne Trotter from EKSTENSIVE Electrical is providing ongoing financial support to our Breakfast Club. Breakfast Club is for all students K-12 and provides toast and other breakfast items every day from the library.
The Boorowa Courthouse Arts and Crafts Co-op are supporting the 'Fruito' program – providing fruit to all infants and primary students to enjoy each day when enjoying a 'brain break' in class.
Both programs support our school's student wellbeing focus and ensure that every student has access to nutrition and sustenance to allow them to apply their best efforts to their learning every day. The students and staff of Boorowa Central School are grateful for this support from EKSTENSIVE Electrical and the Boorowa Courthouse Arts and Crafts Co-op.
Swimming Carnival
Last Friday was a great day in the sun, watching many of our students participate in a variety of races and activities as part of the annual swimming carnival. It was fantastic to see all of the smiling faces, covered in zinc, enjoying the company of their friends whilst participating in a friendly competition. Congratulations to the individual age champions and to the handful of students who broke records on the day.
Blue house was victorious this year in a close competition, and I am sure that Green House will be keen to get one back in the upcoming Cross Country.
Thank you to all of our parent helpers on the day, our carnival organisers and staff who came early to help set up. Events such as these cannot exist without the team efforts of all involved.
Best Start K and Year 7
Best Start Kindergarten has begun at Boorowa Central School this week with Mrs Brougham working with our Kindergarten students individually.
The Best Start Kindergarten Assessment identifies students' literacy and numeracy skills on entry to Kindergarten. It has been conducted in all NSW public schools since 2010. The assessment is mapped to the National Literacy and Numeracy Learning Progressions.
The assessment is conducted in line with existing school practices and builds upon teaching and learning programs that support students in the transition to school.
A parent information video about Kindergarten Best Start can be viewed by following this link:

Best Start Year 7 will begin next week. Best Start Year 7 helps with identifying students who may require additional support in the development of key literacy and numeracy skills that are fundamental to their success in all subjects in secondary school. Feedback from the assessment also provides secondary teachers with information to support targeted teaching strategies that meet the learning needs of their students.
Welcome to our new Teachers
A very warm welcome to the 5 new teachers we have at Boorowa Central School in 2022. They come from a variety of backgrounds, experiences and locations all to the benefit of our students.
Starting in Infants/Primary we have 3 new Teachers. Teaching our Year ½ class is a very familiar face from our school – Miss Paris Corcoran. Miss Corcoran has been a School Learning Support Officer in our school for the past 3 years and has made the successful transition to teaching this year whilst finalising her university degree.
We also welcome 2 male teachers to our Infants/Primary faculty - Mr Matthew Rowley and Mr Brett Sullivan. Mr Rowley is teaching Year 4/5 and joins us from East Maitland Public School where he has taught for a number of years. He brings a great blend of experience and youthful exuberance that the students are loving.
Mr Sullivan is teaching History, Geography and Science to the 5/6 and 4/5 classes, English Intervention and teaching in the Yindyamarra class 1 day a week. He joins us from Sydney where he has applied his craft for 20+ years.
On our secondary staff, we welcome 2 new teachers, Mr Rhett Eldred as the Faculty Leader of English/HSIE and TAS Teacher Mrs Catherine Golden. Mr Eldred returns to the school after several years of teaching in the ACT and brings a wealth of teaching and leadership experience. He is very excited about returning to his old 'stomping ground' and helping raise the literacy levels in the secondary school.
Mrs Golden joins us from Sydney, moving to farm in the wider Boorowa Community. She is a vastly experienced Stage 6 Design and Technology teacher, senior marker and exceptional classroom teacher. She is teaching the Stage 5 elective subject 'Textiles', Stage 4 Technology Mandatory and the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen/Garden Program to K-6.
All 5 teachers have had an exceptional start to their time at Boorowa Central School and the students speak very fondly of them already.
School Community Charter
Parents and carers play an important role in the school community. The School Community Charter informs parents and carers on how to engage with NSW public schools. Read the School Community Charter (PDF 1.4 MB) to ensure you understand how important it is to create a positive learning environment for our students.
P & C AGM
The Boorowa Central School Parents and Citizens Association is holding their annual AGM at the Ex-Services club at 7 pm on Tuesday 1 March 2022. If you are interested in learning more about our school and having the opportunity to be consulted on a number of school initiatives, please come down, become a member and join the fun.
Uniform – Black Leather Shoes
Lastly, I would like to remind all of our parents that the uniform requirement for all students is black, enclosed leather shoes. These black leather shoes are a safety requirement for students who use the Food Tech room, the Ag farm and a number of specialised classrooms. Students can choose to wear black leather school shoes, black leather running shoes or black boots that do not have a steel cap.
Students will not be able to access the above-mentioned spaces in the school without these shoes, which will be disappointing as cooking and gardening are very popular, particularly with our younger students.
For our secondary students who do not wear the correct shoes, they will be placed at 'Pause Point' and may be prevented from representing the school on excursions if not rectified.
If you have any questions or require assistance, please contact the school on 6385 3009.
