- be an eligible beneficiary of one of these cards:
- Veterans Affairs Gold Card

- Pensioner Concession Card
- OR they must be a temporary foster parent
- OR the student is 16 years or older and holds a valid concession card (such as a Youth Allowance Health Care Card)

HELPERS NEEDED FOR 2019 BIG ON BOOKS
Big-on-Books is a school based literacy support program for students in Grades 3 – 6 who would benefit from additional support with literacy activities. In this program, volunteer tutors work with a student once a week for half an hour session, supporting them with their reading. A key factor in the Big-on-Books program is reliable volunteer tutors from the community. You yourself may be interested in participating in this program as a volunteer tutor, or you may know someone in the wider community (such as a retiree) who is interested in participating in this program.
It is most important that these students see their tutors every week, so before signing on, please be very sure that you are prepared to commit fully to the program and can come every week.
We are hoping to get the Big-on-Books program operating early in Term 2. We will run a short training session for those who would like to become tutors, on a date to be advised. If you have already trained previously, you do not need to train again, though you are more than welcome to attend the session.
You must have a current ‘Working with Children’ card. If you do not have one, you need to apply at the Post Office as soon as possible and state that you are a volunteer (this will then be free of charge).
If you are interested in participating in this program, please email the following information as soon as possible to:- Fiona Davis - davis.fiona.f@edumail.vic.gov.au or Sheridan Pover - pover.sheridan.m@edumail.vic.gov.au

CHAPLAINS CHAT
In my first Chaplain’s Chat for the year, I want to take the opportunity to thank the school community for your ongoing support of the chaplaincy program at Ringwood North Primary School. This year will be my twelve year as school chaplain at this school. Some families who are new to the school may not know that the purpose of the chaplaincy program is to offer support to members of the school community, including staff, students, parents and carers. Primarily a pastoral care role, I use my counselling skills to assist children and adults with life’s many challenges including such things as anxiety, self-esteem, family, friendship, social skills, grief and loss, school issues and more. When seeking pastoral care services for your child, parents are required to sign a consent form. This year I am employed at the school two days a week, being every Monday and Wednesday. If you have questions about the chaplaincy program and the support being offered to our school community, please do not hesitate to ask.
Thank you.
