Now that the Production is done and dusted, students are working industriously on a number of musical endeavours.

Just a reminder that any items provided by the school for costumes, need to be returned please as they are now the property of the school and can be used again in the future.

F/1 students are exploring different pieces of music and responding by talking about the instruments they can hear, how the music makes them feel and what it makes them think of. Learning to offer an opinion without being right or wrong, is an important aspect of appreciating music. It is also important to understand that's it's ok NOT to like a particular piece and that the same piece can evoke different memories, images and feelings in different people.

Last week, they listened to "Aquarium" from Carnival of the Animals and discussed the sounds and how it made them feel.

2/3 students are continuing working on rhythms and melodic dictation, placing counters on staff cards to represent higher, lower and notes that are the same.

They have also given me some suggestions of songs they would like to learn in the remainder of the year and I look forward to learning some of their favourites as well as teaching them some of mine.

2 we started before production are revisiting are "Keep A Dream in Your Pocket" and "Roar".

Later in the term, students will be encouraged to perform for their house group in Music. They may sing, dance, play an instrument and may even rehearse and perform with a friend or in a group. Now that they have all been on stage in front of such a huge audience, I am sure more will be willing to display their talents for us in class.

JUST A REMINDER, THAT THE T-SHIRTS WORN FOR "REACH" (KARRUM) NEED TO BE RETURNED PLEASE, AS THEY WERE PURCHASED BY THE SCHOOL.

4/5 students are enthusiatically engaged in an enquiry project of their choice.

The broad topic is MUSIC & PERFORMING ARTS, enabling a vast amount of options for students to investigate.

Year 6 students have commence planning and rehearsing their performances for Graduation in December.

They will be singing a medley of parodies, accompanied on keyboard, guitar and percussion, with a group of singers and dancers highlighted.

They are currently working collaboratively to rewrite lyrics to "Roar" and we will be combining all their ideas. I have been very impressed with their ability to do this, and in particular their understanding of rhyme and syllables.

They will also be performing a rewritten version of "Fight Song" and 1 other, yet to be decided.

I have no doubt it will be a fantastic performance, showcasing their many musical talents.
