Leadership

Curriculum Day

Reminder to parents & caregivers that Monday 31st October is a pupil-free day.

School Review

All schools are required to complete a school review every four years. This week we started our school review, which was held over three days. The school is reviewed against its previous School Strategic goals set in 2018. The process involves a DET-appointed reviewer, Regional Representative, Newlands School Council president, Newlands leadership, and two challenge partners. They review our school performance against the goals and evaluate if we met them and, if not, what possible barriers are to our success. The review process includes discussions with teachers, students and parents. The final day of the review concludes with the reviewer, regional representative, school leadership and school council president formulating new goals for 2023-2026.

Building Works

The Elizabeth Street end of the school grounds is taking shape. The road entrances to the school from Elizabeth Street will be completed next week. This means the footpath along the school boundary will be closed or restricted while the driveways are completed. This will mean that trucks will enter the site from Elizabeth Street to load and remove a number of the soil mounds on the school grounds.

The next step will be demolishing the old administration wing and the corridor connecting the F/1 Area to the 2/3 Area. Students will continue to have no access to this area. We will monitor the availability of the quadrangle area for assemblies every week.

We expect the construction of the gym and learning worlds to commence in the new year. To illustrate what will be constructed, an architectural poster highlighting the main elements has been attached to this newsletter. The architectural firm will also provide a 3D model of one of the learning worlds for the community to view.

Architectural Drawings

The next page of this newsletter provides architectural views of the buildings and an overall site view of Newlands Primary School once all construction work has been completed. The next phase will be the refurbishment of the two main wings of the existing building.

School Staff Carpark access

The staff carpark will be closed to staff and visitors next week. Staff will park their cars in the old Cases Training Centre carpark for the remainder of the construction works. Visitors and parents dropping off or collecting children will need to continue to park on Murphy Street.

Lane gate access

We will be opening the gate entrance from the lane for pedestrian and bike access as of Monday. Bikes will need to be locked to a bike rack, which is located along the lane fence line. Students will no longer be allowed to park their bikes near the buildings as this practice can potentially cause injuries to students.

Reminder to parents and students with bikes. The school does not take responsibility for bikes or scooters not locked in the designated bike area.

REMINDER - Hats

I know we say it every year, but terms four and one are 'NO HAT, NO PLAY' times of the year. All children are expected to wear a school broad-brim or bucket hat daily. The only alternatives to our school hats will be those that provide the same level of sun protection.

Caps, jackets, or any other form of clothing will not be accepted as sun protection. Students who do not comply will be sent to sit in the shade of the Blue shed during lunch and recess.
