World of Maths Incursion
On Tuesday 8 November the Year 7-9 students had an exciting opportunity to participate in the World of Maths Incursion. World of Maths is a unique travelling maths show that provides fun, colourful, hands-on, mathematical, problem-solving activities for students.
These activities allow students to apply the maths skills they have learned in class to real-life, hands-on problem-solving tasks. It was wonderful to see all the students engaging in the activities, challenging themselves and using a range of strategies to find solutions to the problems. It was pleasing to see the students enjoying the activities and to hear the myriad of mathematical discussions taking place.

Forthcoming Elections of Student Leaders
It is with great pleasure that I share with our community some updated information related to student leadership positions for 2023. Servant leadership is something that we take very seriously at Lakeside College, and our student leaders are called upon to exemplify the value of serving and supporting others. The following information is taken from our recently updated Student Leadership Guide for 2023. All students received a copy of the guidelines and participated in a presentation focussed on the various leadership roles for 2023. We believe that all members of our community are called upon to lead in some way, be it as an elected leader or an unbadged leader.
Student Leadership 2023
Student leaders exemplify our school values of “Learn. Care. Achieve”. Giving Glory to Godand Serving the World in Love’
As a Lutheran school, we are committed to developing within out community an understanding and appreciation of servant leadership. Servant leadership does not adopt a traditional, authoritative style of leadership. Servant leaders approach leadership as a servant first.
As seen through the gospel of John 13: 1 - 7 and Mark 9:35 Jesus’ model of leadership wasone of servant leadership. The way of service, sacrifice and love are the cornerstones of Jesus ministry and reflect this way of leadership. As a Lutheran and Christ-centred community, we believe leadership is not about using authority to control and manage, but to love and serve. Jesus reflected this style of leadership in his dealings with both his disciples and the communities he encountered. Throughout his life, Jesus showed us through his actions that a servant leader, out of love, serves the needs of others before their own. We believe that every member of the Lakeside College community is called upon to engage at some level in servant leadership as part of their overall faith journey.
At Lakeside College we believe it is important for students to experience leadership opportunities during their educational journey. Leadership experience helps students to grow emotionally, intellectually and spiritually. Through leadership, students learn the art of building relationships with teams, how to define and develop a sense of identity and how to achieve tasks effectively. It is also of great value in helping students learn to identify and display effective communication and interpersonal skills. Student leaders assist the College to be a Christian school in the Lutheran tradition providing outstanding education by serving students through nurturing holistic wellbeing, setting high expectations, acknowledging positive achievement and encouraging a commitment to serve others.

Leadership Position Descriptions
College Captain
The role of College Captain is a very important one. The College Captains take an active role in leading the student body at Lakeside College. They are also called upon to represent Lakeside College at a number of formal ceremonies and events. The Lakeside College Captains also take on the responsibility of leading the Student Leadership Team by setting the agenda, calendarising events and acting as the liaison between the student cohort and the Head of Secondary school. The College Captains will also play a significant role in helping to organise and present at secondary school assemblies. In carrying out this role the College Captains will work with members of the Student Leadership Team and Head of Secondary School to prepare items for presentation, lead the Acknowledgement of the Land and prepare prayer and devotion.
The Lakeside College Captains must exemplify school standards and the values of Learn, Care and Achieve at all times. They must also accept and acknowledge that they must give glory to God and serve the world with love. The College Captains, in their leadership of the Student Leadership Team, assist Lakeside College to be a Christian school in the Lutheran tradition that provides outstanding education through serving students, nurturing holistic wellbeing, setting high expectations and acknowledging positive achievements.
College House Captains
There are four College House Captains elected each year from the Year 11 cohort. There will be one House Captain for:
Bunurong - Red
Toomuc - Blue
Jamieson - Green
Hessel - Yellow
The House Captains play an important role in motivating students to participate in House based activities, as well as leading and assisting in the organisation of House teams for major House events. The House Captains will work closely with the Sports Coordinator so that events such as the Swimming and Athletics Carnival run smoothly and have high levels of student engagement and participation. In particular, a key role of a House Captain is to build pride and team spirit with students across the different year levels.

Every Student Leadership Team member is elected by a Homeroom. The role of the Student Leader is to support all school activities such as sporting, House activities and fundraising events. They also attend Student Leadership Team meetings held on a regular basis. Their role on this team is a very important one because it is the main forum where they can represent their class members views and opinions. In particular, they are able to bring to the Student Leadership Team meeting any concerns or issues raised by the students they represent. A key aspect of the Student Leader’s role is to act as a liaison between the Student Leadership Team and their Homeroom. They will be able to feedback to their Homeroom what the team are discussing and seek feedback from their peers. Every Student Leader will, at some point, be asked to represent Lakeside College at official functions or student forums.
A student from each Homeroom in Year 7 - 10 is elected onto the Student Leadership Team. The Student Leadership Team meets on a regular basis and has input into college activitiesand contributes to a servant leadership programs and fund-raising events.
