3/4 B

Week 4 Term 4

Literacy

In 3/4B we are currently focusing on Making Connections in our reading. Why is making connections important when we read?

We are learning to make connections as we read to help us understand the text.

We will be successful when we can:

• Think about what we already know about the topic or situation before we read i.e our prior knowledge

• Use words, information and pictures from the text to find new information as we read;

• Make connections between what we knew before reading and the new information we learn as we read.

The students normally spend one week working with the teacher (who models the skills and strategy), then a week working with a partner (consolidating and practising) and finally they spend a week working independently (mastering the skill).

Inquiry /Education in Faith

The stories for our stop motion animations are now underway and we're hoping to begin filming the stop motion's in a couple of weeks. At this point in time we are focusing on developing our stories, characters, setting and props. To integrate our Education in Faith work, the students could choose to develop a story based on either; The Good Samaritan, The Lost Sheep, The Prodigal Son or the The Parable of the Talents.  In the coming weeks we will advise students on when they can begin bringing in materials, figurines, lego etc.. to help compliment their animations.

Maths

We have now completed our weeky revision units on the four operations (x + - /) and this week we began to revise fractions. We've enjoyed working with some pizzas and flags of different countries to help identify, name and draw fractions. As we are coming to the mid point of term 4 the students will also be undertaking some Mathematics assessments to check on their overall improvement across the year. Assessments are used alongside day to day bookwork, teacher observations and pre and post testing to gauge where the students are at in their learning journey.

Jersey Day

On Tuesday we celebrated Jersey Day. The sun shone and a great day was had by all. We enjoyed some House rotation activities between play and lunch to celebrate the day. It was great to see everyone in their favourite team Jersey acknowledging the importance of organ and tissue donors.

Performing Arts Showcase

At Tuesday's assembly the whole school were involved in a Performing Arts showcase. The Year 3/4s showcased their Superheroes vs Villains routine. For a few children they were certainly pushed outside their comfort zone, but to their credit they got up and gave it a go. It was awesome! Thanks to Miss Nicole for putting it all together!

PARC Swimming Pool

On Wednesday 14th December the Year 3/4 students will be attending PARC Swimming Pool between 12:30 - 2:30pm. More information will be forwarded in the coming weeks including an invitation from Operoo to fill out a permission slip for your child to attend. PARC swimming pool will also require a form to be filled out to help assess your child's swimming ability. This will also be forwarded in due course and will need to be submitted online before attending the day. Please keep an eye on the newsletter and email for further details.

Have a great week!

Mr Brendan.
