Learning and Teaching

Bodyworks

This year for the first time our senior students in Year 5 and in Year 6 participated in a series of incursions that were led by Amanda Parsons from Bodyworks.

The Bodyworks Health and Wellbeing program, aimed to  equip our senior students with the knowledge, skills and lifelong behaviours that will enable them to make wise choices regarding their health and confidently navigate the challenges they may encounter as they journey through adolescence. The sessions were highly interactive and dynamic, incorporating fun activities that developed confidence and knowledge that empowered our students. All tasks were carefully chosen to be age-appropriate and actively involved the children in the learning process, providing a safe environment in which students felt free to ask questions and discuss related topics.

Amanda's Feedback

"I was delighted with how the recent Bodyworks Personal Growth and Development was received by all members of the St Francis de Sales school community. The students were very receptive to the sessions and were always enthusiastic and interested in the content being covered. Their mature attitude and approach were outstanding and they should be commended on their behaviour in class and their respect for all those around them. The staff were also very welcoming and encouraging of the students' involvement.

I managed to speak with a couple of parents who were around the school whilst I was there and they too were thrilled that the school had introduced the program and had found their children were coming home and sharing what they had learnt in open and engaging conversations with them. This is wonderful to hear as it is such a vital part of what we aim for with the program."

Student Feedback

During BodyWorks, I learnt many things about puberty and changes that occur in the male and female body. I felt relieved that I could go through the changes of puberty without freaking out. -Christa

During BodyWorks, if anyone saw my face during the sessions it would have been easy to tell how uncomfortable I was. I guess it's just now that I am realizing how much knowledge I have developed. I used to think that puberty was a big thing and my life was going to be terrifying, but now I'm realizing that it's not as bad as you think . -Andrea

During BodyWorks, I had a very fun time learning about many new things and gaining lots of new knowledge. All of the lessons I did on Bodyworks were very interesting and I loved how we got to do activities to figure out which options go on which section. I feel like I have achieved something by knowing about the development of the human body. I believe that Bodyworks is a great way to learn how we grow and why we have to grow. -Fawaz

During BodyWorks, I felt quite unexplainable but I did learn quite a bit. Even though it was very awkward, I would have regretted not going. After the classes everyone was feeling a lot better than when they went in. -Charlie

We were very impressed with the way Amanda ran the program and with the level of engagement by our students. They handled the content with great maturity and respect. It was also important that parents participated in the Parent Information session prior to the commencement of the program and also used the opportunities to open up dialogue with their children. The program was a great success and we look forward to continuing with the program in 2023.
