The Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge

The Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge

We would like to acknowledge and congratulate the 56 students from our College who successfully completed the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge in 2022.

The challenge encourages children and students to read a set number of books over the year and record their efforts online. Since the challenge first began in 2005, more than 3.5 million students have read over 54 million books.

The challenge was established by the Victorian Premier at the time and has been actively supported by all subsequent Premiers since.

It recognises, supports and promotes the importance of literacy and the impact it has on one’s life while encouraging the activity of reading, just for the sheer pleasure of this wonderful hobby.

There has been a lot of publicity about the decline in literacy standards in education recently and this challenge is the perfect way to work towards increasing literacy standards both individually and as a school.

Did you know that a person’s literacy standard has a direct impact on their life outcomes?

Did you know that your literacy standard influences the income you can earn?

Did you know that your literacy standard influences how healthy you are?

Did you know that your literacy standard influences how long you live for?

Did you know that your literacy standard influences how happy and successful your life is?

We would like to challenge and strongly encourage all Year 7 – 10 students at St Joseph’s College to take up the challenge in 2023. This is the perfect opportunity to indulge in one of life’s great pleasures and reap the many benefits and joy reading offers!

Let’s do everything we can to promote reading in our school and make our school a school of readers - that is of students who can all read well and often, by doing so every day.

Congratulations to the following students who completed the challenge this year. Each student who has completed the challenge will receive a certificate, $10 canteen voucher and house points!
