Deputy Principal Update

 Dear Families,

Another two weeks has passed and it has certainly been a busy time here at school. Hopefully the weather will start to improve and we can experience some warmer conditions more akin to Summer, which is just around the corner.

Foundation Transition Session – Wednesday 23rd:

It was a special day on Wednesday when the Foundation children for 2023 spent some time at school. Nerves were soon put aside when the children spent time exploring the Foundation learning spaces as well as some parts of the playground. I was lucky enough to take my guitar across and spend some time singing songs with the children. The smiles on faces as the children left indicated they’d all had a fun time at school. Thank you to Miss Levesque and Mrs Small for taking such great care of the children.

Fire Carriers – Remembrance Day Ceremony RSL:

I mentioned in the last newsletter, Lilly Heggert, Brodie Payne and Samantha Nardella represented our school at the Remembrance Day Ceremony at the Shepparton Cenotaph. I’ve included a couple of photos of them doing this – I was unable to get them in the last newsletter.

Lost Property:

As we move closer to the holidays and end of the school year, it would be good to return items in lost property to their homes. If you have missing containers, uniforms or other belongings, it might be worth mentioning to your child/ren to check lost property to see if they are there.

Library News:

It's that time of the year where we start to ask students to return all library books. We have over 300 books out on loan and last year it took many weeks to get these books back. As of Monday, students will no longer be able to borrow books from the library so that we can begin our return and audit process. Could you please have a good look at home for any books that need to be returned to school.

Book Club:

Issue #8 of Scholastic Book Club orders have been sent home with the students this week. Orders close Friday 2nd December. This is the last edition for the year. They would make great Christmas presents.

All payments are to be made online via Loop. To make payments, visit scholastic.com.au/LOOP or download the LOOP app. If you require your order as a gift, you can select this option when ordering and it will be held at the office for collection.

If you require assistance with this please let us know so we can help you. Every order earns FREE books and learning resources for our school.

Italian Day:

This Friday, 25th November, the school held a special day to promote and celebrate the learning of Italian at St Luke’s. Mrs Niglia has spent many weeks organising a fun day for all the children. Activities included playing games popular in Italy, learning a traditional dance, a staff versus students soccer match and finally finishing the day sharing gelato and sorbet - popular Italian desserts. It has been a great day and lots of fun for everyone. A very big thank you to Mrs Niglia for all her preparation for this day – it is very much appreciated by the staff and students of St Luke’s. We are very lucky to have Mrs Niglia teach us about all things Italy – both the language and culture. Grazie Mrs Niglia!!

I’ll include some photos in the final newsletter.

Next Sunday, we begin the liturgical season of Advent. I’d like to finish with a prayer for this:

A Prayer for Advent:

Jesus,

You are the hope for our world.

This Advent, help us to slow down,

listen to your voice,

and focus on what’s really important.

We place our hope in you as we prepare our hearts

To celebrate your birth at Christmas.

Amen.

Kind regards.

Tony Mc.
