Carrolup Artworks

Ezzard Flowers was invited to Year Eight art class to introduce the Carrolup Artworks to students and talk about the context in which the artworks were created. He also shared some history, personal experiences growing up at the Marribank Mission and talked about art styles and meanings.

Some student comments:

‘I thought it was really interesting getting to talk to someone that experienced the Stolen generation. He taught us about what the children did when they were in the bush. The kids aged from 10-14 years would create these beautiful paintings using limited colours of ink and pencils.’ Willow

‘He was an interesting man and had a lot of experience. His story was sad, but he had a lot of experience with art.’  Holly

‘I think the visit was interesting to learn the stories and how life was like for Indigenous kids back then.’ Ella

‘I found it really interesting how Ezzard described his story, the way everything links together through art and how there is always a special meaning to it.’  Eli

‘Uncle Ezzard taught us a lot about the Stolen Generations and his culture. It was an honour having him coming in to talk to us.’ Eren
