Showing up

There are so many opportunities for our students to 'show up' for others and I am always impressed by their willingness to share their time and talents.  Last week we were able to recognise Remembrance Day with a beautiful service arranged by Mrs Jill Bascombe and delivered by a number of our students.  From 'The Last Post' with Albert Gouldthorp bugling to a reading of 'In Flander Fields' by Ivy Moir, we were able to pay a fitting tribute to our veterans.

The Albany Show also provided a showcase of student talent with gingerbread houses on display and many other entrants to competitions, along with our Pipe Band regaling the crowds.  I so enjoyed seeing our leaders interacting with so many young children who were delighted to have their faces painted whilst their parents enjoyed affogato prepared by our Hospitality students.  The joy on the faces of the children as they walked away as Batman or a garden fairy was heart-warming to witness.  Of course, the joy for our children was not just about the face paint, but about being held in a warm interaction and holding the full attention of an older student for just a little while.  This is where connections are made.

Thank you to all our staff and students who make these events possible and show up for others.
