Chatham Happenings

An update from the students of Chatham Primary School

Year 2 Toy Science Incursion

On Friday 21st October, the Year 2 students participated in an exciting Toy Science Incursion. This inspiring 90-minute STEAM-focused incursion was specifically designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of forces and motion, light and materials. Students had the opportunity to engage in a play-based learning approach.

They explored the various historical and scientific basics behind multiple toys. During the incursion, the Year 2 students were guided through each learning activity, prompting them to observe, investigate, communicate and reflect along the way. They had the opportunity to play with a variety of different types of toys across four stations. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the incursion and had lots of fun. This experience gave the Year 2 students inspiration to create their own toys thorough our focus on STEAM this term.

Year 3 Excursion to Birrarung Marr

On Friday, 4th November, the Year 3 students travelled into the city to enjoy the Birrarung Wilam Walk. The session began in the Koorie Heritage Trust in Federation Square and then took us along the Yarra Birrarung where the students learnt of the significance of Birrarung Marr to our First Nations people. Students also enjoyed some play time in the large playground and visited and listened to the Federation Bells whilst they ate their lunch. Thanks to our parent helpers, Lauren and Amber, for assisting us on the day.

Year 3 Visit to Canterbury District Pre-School

On 26th October the Year 3 students visited some of our Chatham Chickens at Canterbury District Pre-School. We had such a fun time performing a song for the pre-school students, making new friends and singing songs together. We can’t wait to see the Chatham Chickens in 2023!
