Back to School

It was with great delight that we welcomed all students back to Warrandyte Primary School. Staff were greeted with many smiles, enthusiasm and an eagerness from students to catch up with their friends. Students quickly settled back into onsite school life and as I walked through the school I got the sense that many had missed being at school and learning with their peers.

Over the coming weeks staff will be assessing students in a variety of ways. They will observe students behaviours, analyse work samples and have students completing some more formal tasks. These are all opportunities for teachers to assess where students are at in their learning. From this, teachers will be able to develop individual plans to best suit individual students needs. This will allow teachers to support students where needed, extend them and of course challenge them to be their very best.

As previously mentioned our number one priority is student wellbeing. If you have any concerns about your child/children and their transition back to school please contact your child's teacher or myself at the school office.

Hats

A reminder that students are expected to wear their Warrandyte Primary School hat during recess, lunch and all outdoor activities. Please support us in ensuring that your child/children has an appropriate hat at school. A reminder that caps are not part of our school uniform. As of next week, any student without an appropriate hat will be required to sit under cover during all breaks.

Snake Safety

With the arrival of the warmer weather snakes are starting to become more active. The following points (courtesy of Department of Environment) provide some important reminders during snake season :

~ If you see a snake-keep calm and try to move yourself, anyone with you and your pets away from the snake.

~ Never touch or attempt to capture or hurt a snake-instead tell someone and call your nearest licensed snake catcher.

~ Have a spring clean-clean up around the house and cut lawns regularly. Snakes are attracted to shelter such as piles of rocks and timber sheets of metal or building materials.

~ Undertake first aid training and ensure your first aid kit contains several compression bandages and someone is bitten call 000 immediately.

~ Snakes are protected under the Wildlife Act 1975. It is illegal to capture, kill or harm them. Most snake bites occur when people try to capture or kill snakes.

2021 Planning

Planning is well underway for 2021. To assist with our planning, we ask that any families who will not be returning next year to Warrandyte Primary School to please let us know as soon as possible.

If there are any current families who have not enrolled their child, who will be commencing prep next year, could you please complete an enrolment form as soon as possible.

2020 Parent Opinion Survey

WE WANT OUR PARENTS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!

Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents think of our school. The Parent Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is conducted amongst all parents. It is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of parents’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, student engagement and experiences of remote and flexible learning. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies. All parents will be invited to participate in this year’s survey. All responses to the survey are anonymous. This year, the Parent Opinion Survey will be conducted from Monday 12th October to Friday 13th November.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the fieldwork period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. The online survey will be available in a range of languages other than English. These include: Arabic, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Chin (Hakha), Hindi, Japanese, Somali, Turkish, Punjabi and Greek.
