Another great term of learning

Year 10

Usually around this time of the year, all of Year 10 would be going out to work experience for a week to gain skills and an insight into what it takes to be successful in the workplace and an adult environment. Unfortunately, due to the restrictions and procedures in place due to COVID this will not be happening this year. Instead, Mrs Reid and our careers/transition team have put together some amazing opportunities within the school to help to prepare our students for life after school. In Week 6, a group selected group of student participated in the EDGE program  where they learnt about employability and communication skills, pathways to work, personal grooming and also had the opportunity to engage with guest speakers. Some even got a free haircut and a facial! (see separate EDGE article in this edition of our school newsletter).

This Wednesday, we also ran a SALT (Supporting and Linking Tradeswomen) workshop for some of our potential “Lady Tradies” where students spent the day experiencing what it is like to build a project from scratch. (see separate SALT newsletter article in this edition of our school newsletter).

Ms Petrovska's Year 10 Food Technology class have been busy decorating cakes.  I know where I will be going when I next need a cake that looks amazing and tastes great!  Here's a sample of some of the students' work.

In Week 8, all of Year 10 will participate in the “Nail It” program where they will reflect on their own skills and qualities, prepare a resumè, learn how to apply for jobs and how to prepare for interviews. A huge thank you to Mrs Reid, Mrs Randall, Miss Schell, Mr Alfonsi and Mr Chambour for your time and effort spent developing this program. “Nail it” will run for four days and will also include some wellbeing activities organised by Mr Dunn and Miss Miletic.

Year 7

At a recent year assembly, I was very pleased to be able to speak to Year 7 about the fantastic work that they have been doing in class and the respectful and responsible behaviour that they have been displaying in the playground. Year 7 have made great strides this term and all of their teachers, Miss Cupac and Mr Wilcox in particular, have been very proud of what they have achieved so far this year. We all look forward to the Year 7 Reward Day at Jamberoo Action Park in Week 8 to celebrate these successes and to continue to finish the year on a positive note.
