Year 3/4 News

Welcome

Since our last newsletter, we have continued to see the 3/4's challenge themselves in all academic areas as you will read below.    We have enjoyed each other's company and are 'back into the groove' of on-site learning. But, even though there are only a couple of weeks left, we are going to make sure that these last few weeks cap off the BEST TERM EVER, A TERM LIKE NO OTHER!

Literacy

In Reading....

In Writing, students have focused on the text type of persuasive writing. It has been great to see how persuasive our students were! Students chose their own topic of choice. These were a few of the topics chosen:

  • Why my mum/dad should buy me a pool?
  • Why should students be always be allowed to sit on chairs?
  • Why summer is better than winter?
  • Why you should love Harry Potter?

Students went through the writing process of planning and drafting, ensuring that they included lots of persuasive language and followed the correct writing structure. Students used the persuasive writing sentences starters to assist them in writing a more convincing writing piece.

Maths

In Maths, we have been looking at Chance and Data.  Specifically, in data, we have been focusing on two things.  Firstly, how to ask 'quality' questions which will give more information to analyse.  Rather than, 'what is your favourite...' or 'do you like...', we discussed how questions are important for collecting information. Secondly, we learnt how to analyse the data, adding wondering questions such as:  What do the graphs represent? What trends are they showing us?  What predictions can we make in the future?

Over the next two weeks, we are going to explore the program 'Tinkercad' for our unit in shape. From the design we make online, we are going to try and replicate it using 3D shapes.

RE

In Religion, the Year 3 students have been focusing on decision making, identifying good and poor choices and the consequences of these choices.  Students reflected on their own daily choices and developed strategies to reconcile with themselves and others. Students made their own 'Kid President' video on how to make good choices. Students referred to this video for inspiration...

Father Simon has commenced with the school-based liturgy, 'Working Masses' for Year 4 students. During the special Eucharistic Celebration, students referred to their individual mass booklet to familiarise themselves with the order of mass and responses.

Sacrament of First Reconciliation

Students in Year 4 will be receiving their First Reconciliation on Wednesday 2nd of December 2020. This Sacrament will take place during school hours. We ask that our school community pray for the children over the coming weeks.

Wellbeing

Over the last few weeks we have differentiated the Wellbeing program and focused on:

Working with others positively

Key Messages:

  • Getting along with others makes you feel happier
  • Social interaction are really important for getting along with others
  • Being a good friend

Help seeking

Key Messages:

  • How do we know whether a problem is ‘serious’ or not?
  • How do we know whether we should involve other people in helping us to solve it?
  • Who we ask for help?
