We Love Investigating!

Our learning spaces have been buzzing with excitement and curiosity this past fortnight. The 1/2‘s have been embracing investigations with a sense of commitment, purposefulness and passion. Collaboration has been key to the success of many investigative projects, many of which have been a working progress. The construction areas have come alive with the design and creation of three dimensional structures that require problem solving skills to improve design and engineering. World Heritage sites such as the Colosseum were the inspiration for these buildings. Our drama and theatre areas have been alive with performances. Students have created an extraordinary script, characters and a mystery plot and performed it with flair and spirit. It was well enjoyed by all.  We also have a new bridge for our fairy garden that was very thoughtfully designed and decorated. We invite you to have a look at some photos of our investigations this fortnight....

Numeracy & Literacy Learning

In numeracy this fortnight, we have been revisiting place value, number sense and addition and subtraction. We do this a number of different ways. We use concrete materials, we play games and we problem solve. As we near the conclusion of our school year, you too can revise mathematical topics taught this year at home. You could regularly ask your child the time on analogue clock, have them calculate the cost of a shopping list, ask them to use locational language and directions when driving home or describe the outcome of events such as “What are the chances it will rain on Christmas day?”. In literacy, students have been practicing the skill of editing their work effectively. We have been exploring the features of a dictionary and how to use them efficiently when editing our work. Adding detail to our writing to hook the reader with sizzling starters such as a flashback or funny joke have been the focus of our narrative writing.

Parent Teacher Chat

Next week, Teachers in Year 1/2 will be making themselves available for a 5 minute Parent Teacher Chat. If you would like to organise a chat about your child, please email your homeroom teacher by COB, Thursday, 26th November to arrange a suitable time.

Friendly Reminders

Year 1/2 students' library day this term is Fridays. Students are encouraged to bring their library bag and return any books they may have at home. We also ask that students bring in their Home Reader and Spelling Homework book on Fridays.

A reminder for students to bring in any recycled materials for our collage areas such as cardboard boxes and other packaging materials. Please ensure your child’s uniform and personal belongings are labelled. There is ample lost property in the front office should you be missing anything.
