Busy End of Year

It is hard to believe that we are nearly at the end of the school year. What an amazing job the students have done readjusting to school life. We all cannot wait for the new year where families are welcome back onto the school site as we miss seeing and talking with parents face-to-face.

In the last week of school, the Fairview and Cumberland Assemblies times on Monday will be a Christmas Chapel Service. It would be lovely to see parents join the Zoom meetings. On the last Friday of the school year, we will be having one special Primary Zoom Assembly where both Fairview and Cumberland will attend at 9am. At this Assembly, we will have some Fairview reflections from students and Cumberland students will be presented with Colour Awards and the 2021 Primary Captains will be announced. It would be great if parents can join us using the same Zoom link that has been used all year for Assemblies.

2021 Primary Captains

All Captain interviews have been conducted over the last few weeks. It has been a long process as there was an overwhelming number of applications. Electing captains is extremely difficult with so many strong contenders. Emails will be sent home to the parents of successful applicants and the 2021 Captains will be announced at the final Assembly for the year. All students who applied were interviewed and conducted themselves confidently. Students are to be commended for writing their applications and showing a willingness to be a part of the Leadership Team. Each student was told after their interview that they should be proud of participating in this process.

Step-Up Day Thursday 10 December

It is a very exciting time when students find out their new class and teacher for the new year. Please be assured that many factors are considered when creating classes, including the academic, social and emotional needs of all students. We are very thankful for the support and trust that parents have in the process. All our Primary teachers are wonderful and will ensure that your child transitions smoothly into a new class. On Thursday 10 December, students will get to spend half of the day with their new class for 2021.

Prep Update

Mrs Natasha Radley (Class teacher)

The Prep students have been very busy with heir learning as always. A couple of highlights were going to the Aitken College Wetlands at the Science Gardens for a 5-senses walk and picnic. Here they were able to see, hear, smell, touch and taste different things. We then talked about the different things we noticed. The Prep children continued to work on being ‘bucket fillers’ and made their teachers happy with all of the efforts they have put in during class time. ‘Money, Money, Money. Show me the money!!’ In Maths this week we learnt about money and even set up shops. We used the Coles Little Shop items to purchase. The word of the week in Prep this week was ‘kite’ and they made their own kites. The kites were tricky to make, but fun and they looked great. Very colourful!

Year 1 and 2 Update

Miss Hannah Petterson (AHOS)

Term 4 is quickly coming to a close and in Year 1 and Year 2 lots of learning fun has been happening. In Year 1, students have been looking at procedural writing, such as recipes for delicious food. For some fun writing tasks, we have made up our own stories by rolling dice to give us our writing prompts. We have also been getting creative with cardboard boxes to build your own communities including natural, managed and constructed features. This was part of our Integrated Studies unit on community.

Year 2 students have been just as busy. We have had a virtual incursion with Kids Helpline, who have helped give us strategies when dealing with friendship issues. We also played movie snippet guessing games throughout this session - we got them all! In Maths, we were lucky enough to use the beebots to help us give clear directions to others. Another Maths activity saw us in buddies, giving directions on how to make a shape with connecting cubes - the challenge? We had to sit back-to-back without peeping!

Year 3 and 4 Update

Mrs Anne Adams (AHOS)

Poetry was the order of the day for Year 3. Students tried their hand at alliteration which is where each word begins with the same letter. Maths revision in the form of games was an enjoyable way to finish the day.

Year 5 and 6 Update

Mr Nigel Keegan (AHOS)

It has been a very productive couple of weeks in Year 5 and Year 6. Students have had the opportunity to demonstrate their learning through assessment work and assignments. Well done to all students for the time, effort and commitment to your studies. Please keep an eye on My Aitken for rubrics and feedback on a range of work from this term. Enjoy some photo examples below of students’ exciting learning taking place.
