Helping us to help them...

The playground can bring many wonderful activities to life, strengthen friendships and build new ones. The staggered timetable has been met with wonderful feedback from the students, mentioning more room to play and similar aged students to play with!

On occasion, though, there may be small blips or situations where students feel the support of an adult is needed. Our yard duty teachers (dressed in lovely high-vis vests) are out everyday to ensure a safe, supported and settled play experience for everyone.

Troubles in the yard with friends and equipment are best dealt with at the time, so that all concerned are present and relationships and positive play can be reestablished within minutes. If incidents are not reported until arriving home, parents are then faced with upset children and only one side of the story, and often ring the school for more information. This is difficult to gather if the yard duty teacher was not made aware during playtime.

No reported incident will be ignored, and will be logged on Sentral making follow up easy and direct if needed. Our Safe Play behaviour matrix is a system that allows teachers to match negative behaviours with consequences. For example; low level incidents may require redirection or a reminder of safe play whereas serious incidents could mean removal from the yard and a phone call to parents.

We are asking all parents to remind their children of self-help strategies when dealing with such as  saying, 'Stop it. I don't like it when you do that!' and if that doesn't get results, go to the yard duty teacher.

If issues are reported at the time, then they can be resolved at the time.

Thank you for your support,
