From the Principal

Ms Noelene Hussey

Dear Families,

On Sunday we celebrate Mother’s Day and I wish all our Mums, Grandmothers and Aunties a very happy Mother’s Day. Our school community appreciates all you do for your children so I hope you have the opportunity to be spoiled, relax and put your feet up.

Our Mother’s Day Stall will be held on Thursday. Your children will be able to purchase a gift for you. They will range from $2  to $8

Don’t forget to come along to our Mother’s Morning at school where you can be pampered, dance or make some jewellery, just to name a few activities.  It begins at 7.45am and will end at 9.00am. From 9.00am you are welcome into the Staffroom for Morning Tea. This is a great morning for our school community so come along and have some fun with your children.

A reminder also about our Mother’s Night out next Friday evening at the Sunbury Bowling Club.

Congratulations to our Year 3 and 4 children who received the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time last week. The celebrations were very reflective and meaningful for our families and our children. Fr Kevin reminded us that God will always forgive us when we turn away from him and this Sacrament allows us all to be reconciled with Him. I would like to thank our teachers for preparing our children and to Simon Maltese for coordinating the program. Thanks to Fr Kevin and the visiting priests as well as the Parish staff who also helped to organise the celebration.

Congratulations to our children who competed in the Sunbury Schools Cross Country Competition on Monday. Our children competed extremely well running 2 or 3 kilometres depending on their age group.

Our sidewalk between the oval and Junior building is now open. Our children are enjoying using this area to play and for our junior classes to learn. The gate leading out to the car park will be opened and this may be helpful when dropping off or picking up your children. Prep White, One Gold and Maroon will now be using the outside doors to enter and exit their children. This will prevent the congestion that occurs at the gate in the courtyard each day after school.

Positive Behaviour for Learning

Over the next few weeks our teachers will be teaching our children how to be RESPECTFUL in the classroom and yard. They will be focussing on the following expectations;

  • Using friendly language
  • Listen to others
  • Take turns

We will be encouraging our children to be aware of the way they speak to teachers and their friends, especially if they are feeling agitated. The other teaching point we will be making is that we need to be aware of others feelings when we call them a ‘nickname’ or joke with them. What we might think is funny can be very upsetting for others.

We will also be encouraging our children to ensure they listen to their friends and do not interrupt or take over the conversation. Taking turns and not pushing in will also be a teaching point for all our children.

At home I encourage you to remind your children to show respect and good manners when talking to you. Ensure they remember to say please and thank you, call you by name - ‘mum can I have …..’ If we work together then our children will learn the importance of being respectful and how this can help them to develop positive relationships with their friends and teachers.

God Bless,
