With the further easing of restrictions this week instrumental teachers were pleased to be able to have up to five students playing indoors. This is another step towards playing together in large groups which we are craving.

Wind Symphony and Soundworks rehearsed with groups of up to ten separated outside from those on the open Music Centre stage. See photos. It was fabulous to see the students playing together again.

Wind Symphony minus the year 12s played to the DSC staff as they participated in the Physical Activity day of “Tune In Week” by walking around the athletics track. They played tunes such as “The Incredibles” from their outside rehearsal space to motivate the staff in their physical pursuits.

Soundworks played together for the first time since the first term this week and showed great resilience on a hot day outside. They managed to find shady places to sit and the percussion were able to play from indoors out through our large opening glass folding door. The students are playing really well considering the lost time they’ve had. Our focus for the rest of the term will be on developing the ensemble skills they’ve missed learning throughout the year.

Concert Band will resume rehearsals this Tuesday 17th November after school and Junior and Senior Jazz bands will combine, in the absence of the year 12s, to create what will be the foundation of next year’s Senior Jazz.

String ensembles have continued to be able to rehearse and are making excellent progress. Stay tuned for virtual concerts soon.
