Year 11 Peer Support

On the first day of school for Year 11 students participated in Peer Support Training. Through the Peer Support Program, the Year 11 students will assist the Year 7 students with their transition into Endeavour College and more generally secondary school life. We aim to create bonds with the Year 7 students and help them to develop positive connections with each other whilst teaching them about our College system through interactive, interesting and fun activities. During this training day the Year 11 students worked together in their Village group to learn from the teachers on how to be a good leader, mentor and role model to the Year 7s. The first thing we did was discuss and brainstorm the what being a good leader, mentor and role model looks like, feels like and sounds like. Each Village also worked on an individual activity. My Village, Kavel, participated in a task that involved writing positive complimentary comments about the other members of our Village using a letter our teacher chose at random. Although during this task my group did not always follow all the instructions given to us, we reflected on our involvement, participation and behaviour during the activity. This was a valuable learning experience and we discussed how we might manage similar circumstances when we lead the Year 7 students.  After the task we did some brainstorming with the Year 12 Village Leaders. The Year 12 Village Leaders gave us valuable insight into planning and conducting the sessions. Their extra help and explanations of what they did last year gave us great ideas for what we might do this year and we really appreciated their involvement and guidance throughout the day. Our group discussion helped us to think about how we can make the activities inclusive, meaningful and fun. Also thank you to the Year 11 staff for their help preparing us for our first leadership experience in Year 11. We look forward to working with the Year 7 students in our Christian Living lessons throughout Term 1.

Year 12 Orientation

Year 12 Orientation was an insightful and bonding experience for all of the Year 12s. It began, on Wednesday, with many exciting activities led by the yLead group including dancing, reflecting and team activities around themes of leadership, teamwork and gratitude. Their enthusiatic approach to the big year ahead motivated us to get involved and to consider the legacy we would leave behind. We then got the oppurtunity to plan and cook dinner on a $30 budget with our Villages which we found to be extremely valuable and allowed us to further work with and connect with our Village. Through this experience, we acknowledged the importance of supporting each other throughout this difficult year ahead. Despite the long, tiring 12-hour day, we ended the day with old scholars coming back providing with us with insight and advice for what to expect in Year 12.

On Thursday, Year 12s became very competitive with the practical activity led by Mr Pearse which involved team strategies, an ambitious spirit and lots of encouragement. After recess, we were presented with a study skills workshop that aimed to equip us with some skills and strategies that could help us in our studies.

Overall, the two days presented us with not just the information we needed, but motivated, inspired and challenged us for the year ahead.

Leadership Day

On Tuesday 4 December, Student Leaders from South Australian Lutheran schools gathered at the annual 'Lutheran Leaders Day' hosted by Cornerstone College in Mount Barker. The day served as an opportunity for us as school leaders to network and gain knowledge about how to be an effective leader. Starting off with an engaging devotion, the four former Cornerstone Captains organised activities designed to teach us about leadership, with sessions on ‘Getting the most out of your team and supports,’ ‘identifying strengths’ and ‘understanding leadership from within’. We were able to share ideas with students from the other Lutheran schools, but also had time to begin brainstorming as the Endeavour College Student Executive, discussing our aspirations and ideas for next year. The day was a pleasant and enjoyable experience, allowing us to prepare to serve our College and community in the coming year.
