Year 10 Careers Market Excursion
On Tuesday 21st June, 53 Year 10 students travelled via bus to the Mid Coast Careers Market, held at Port Macquarie Racecourse. The day provided students with the opportunity to meet with employers and industry professionals from a variety of occupations as well as discuss further study options with universities, TAFE and private providers. A range of other support agencies were also in attendance to ensure every student gained something useful from the day. The variety of choices available was fantastic and it was very positive to witness the number of students taking advantage of completing requests for further information.
Throughout the careers market, students were able to get up close to Spiny Leaf insects or guinea pigs to learn about careers in animal care whilst other students sampled the services they would learn to deliver from a TAFE Beauty course.
The rally race car on display drew a lot of interest as did the chance to make a MediPak full of lollies or receive plant seedlings and caps.
Some mechanical issue with the bus prevented the planned lunch stop but students took advantage of the onsite food options.
At the end of the day, all students felt they had gained something with some stating they now knew what industry they wanted to research for possible future job options.
We would like to thank Uncle Dicko and Georgie for joining us and we thank the students for their respectful and mature interactions with the stall holders and other schools present. They proved to be worthy representatives of Kempsey High School.
