A message from the Principal
As we come to the end of Semester One at KHS I would just like to thank the whole school community for your support of KHS. COVID19 is still lurking around and influenza has also come back with a vengeance this term. Please keep your child at home if they are not well or showing symptoms of COVID or the flu. We still have plenty of RATS so please contact the school if you need more sent home.
This term we have introduced two initiatives that are already having a positive impact on the KHS school community. Teachers are reporting that the introduction of YONDR pouches has greatly improved the learning environment in classrooms without the distraction of a mobile device. In the playground students are also utilising the physical environment much more than before the introduction of YONDR. It is great to be in the playground at recess or lunch and see KHS students in all years either playing handball, table tennis, basketball or running around on the oval. It is also wonderful to observe students just sitting in the sun and having a chat with each other.
STYMIE has also been taken up by students. Stymie helps your child to say something by enabling them to report all kinds of concerns, safely and anonymously. The bystander effect occurs when the presence of others discourages us from intervening in an emergency situation. Social influence affects how many children behave, so they are less likely to stand up to inappropriate behaviours in public when the number of onlookers is high. Often our children are burdened by serious issues involving their friends but don’t know how to help. Students are using the anonymous reporting platform to look out for their mates and also themselves. Please remember to go to Stymie Notification to get help.
I wish all in the KHS community a restful and enjoyable holiday. All students return Tuesday 19 July.
