Secondary Sports Update

As most of you should now know, this is my final week at Clayfield College, my working home for the last fifteen and a half years. Next week I start the next chapter of my life at IGGS, so will be on the other side when we meet again, however, my heart will currently sit with Clayfield! It has been an absolute pleasure and privilege working with your daughters over these years and specifically the last eighteen months as Head of Health, Wellness and Sport. Clayfield has been and is a very special place and it will be very difficult walking out of the gates for the last time this week as a member of this community. Thank you all very much for your support over these years, it has been very much appreciated.

In the transition of my departure and the commencement of Cerene Hughes the newly appointed Head of Sport and Activities, could all correspondence please be sent to sport@clayfield.qld.edu.au in relation to QG sport, sporting achievements, Met North and the Elite Sporting Program.

Winter Sports Camp Wrap-up

Thirty girls and three CC staff attended the first ever Clayfield College Winter Sports Camp in the final week of Term 2 at the Gold Coast Performance Centre, Runaway Bay. It was a jammed-packed three days of activity, fun and great food. The girls thoroughly enjoyed the variety of sessions, the type of activities, the instructors, the CC coaches who came down to run specialist sessions and of course, the food. A number enjoyed it so much, they have asked that the camp runs for five days next time! A great sign for a new and really good initiative in sport at the College.

Thank you to our Sports Captains Jacqui and Maka who really took the lead over the three days and ran a number of great, fun sessions for the girls. Thank you also to Mrs. Monnickendam and Ms. Francis for joining me down on the coast for the three days, as you can see from the photos below, they really threw themselves into the activities!

With the huge success of this camp, the College Sports Department has put bookings in for the Summer Camp in January 2023, and the winter camp in June 2023. Further details about these will come out later this term.

QG Winter Sports

All winter sports training is back on, and coaches are busy preparing our teams for the first round of games this week. The season kicks off with Tennis being played on Friday afternoon and the other three sports, Netball, Hockey and Volleyball being played on Saturday. There are still a few more girls required in a range of sports to ensure that we have sufficient reserves in each team. The sports department strongly encourages girls from Years 7, 8 and 9 to try out a new sport if they haven’t already signed up. These younger levels are all about skill development and game knowledge. No prior experience is required. If your daughter has not yet signed up and would like to, please contact the Sports department asap at sport@clayfield.qld.edu.au. Please see the full training schedule on the College app so you can know when training is if your daughter is interested in joining or just contact the Sports Department staff.

QG Athletics

This week has seen a great start to the Athletics season with around twenty girls at our first session despite it being a cold winter morning. This is a great early sign and we hope this interest and commitment remains across the term.

Next week is the Interhouse Athletics carnival at UQ and this carnival will give girls the opportunity to win points for their House, but also show coaches and sports staff what they can do. From the carnival, a training squad will be named to join the girls who have signed up for Athletics. Over the term, training passports will be filled in along with a number of meets to eventually select the team to represent Clayfield at the Championships on Thursday 15 September at QSAC. ALL girls in the training squad are asked to note this date to ensure they are available to compete.
