NAIDOC Awareness – Smoking Ceremony

Students from Pre-Prep to Year 12 enjoyed the tradition of an indigenous Smoking Ceremony on Tuesday. Below are some thoughts from Year 1 about their experience.

"Today we went to a smoking ceremony and learned that smoke can heal bad spirits."

"We walked around in a line through the smoke, it was fun!"

"It smelled like roasted marshmallows!"

"I liked it when we walked through the smoke because it gets rid of bad spirits."

"They used gum leaves to make the fire very smoky with a nest of dry grass."

Clubs Program

Please find below our Club offerings for Term 3. Clubs will commence in Week 2.

Needlecraft Club*

This session will be led by Mrs. Bailey on Monday lunchtimes for students in Prep to Year 6. Sewing helps improve hand-eye coordination, brain growth and promotes happiness. The project for this term will be teddy bears. Donations of old fleece blankets or jumpers are greatly appreciated for upcycling into cuddly bears. This session will take place in Room 132 from 1:05 pm.  This club is limited to 12 students with registration required, using the below button. Please contact Mrs. Bailey for more information at rbailey@clayfield.qld.edu.au.

Theatre Games

This session will be led by Mrs. Bryan and will be conducted on Tuesday lunchtimes from 1:05 pm for children in Years 3 to 6 in the Assembly Hall. Theatre games borrow many elements and techniques from theatre, such as role-playing, improvisation, pantomime and dramatization but unlike theatre, they don’t aim in theatrical performance. It’s not about the theatrical performance itself, but about being creative, learning new skills and having fun!  Please contact Mrs. Bryan for more information at mbryan@clayfield.qld.edu.au.

Tech Explorers

This club will be led by Mr. Lloyd on Tuesday lunchtimes from 1:05 pm in Lab 36. Our Year 12 Technology Ambassadors, Jess and Jasmine, will collect interested students in Years 2 to 6 from the Amphitheatre and escort them to the lab where they will work on Minecraft projects.  Please contact Mr. Lloyd for more information at jlloyd@clayfield.qld.edu.au.

LEGO Club

This session will be led by Mrs. Robertson and will be conducted on Wednesday lunchtimes from 1:05 pm for children in Prep to Year 6 in the Makerspace Room. In LEGO Club, students will be developing creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Please contact Mrs. Robertson for more information at crobertson1@clayfield.qld.edu.au.

Reading Buddies Club

This club will be led by Mrs. Finney on Thursday lunchtimes from 1:05 pm in the Library. The students will engage in shared reading experiences and enjoy stories with each other. Through this club, the children will continue to develop their love of reading and deepen social connections.  Please contact Mrs, Finney for more information at sfinney@clayfield.qld.edu.au.

Ignite Science Club:

This club will be led by Mrs. Hart on Thursday lunchtimes in Lab 28. In these sessions Years 4 to 6 students will learn about Science in a fun and creative way. There will be Coke and Mentos explosions, slime making and many more amazing activities.

Please contact Mrs. Hart for more information at phart@clayfield.qld.edu.au.

Sandpit Club

This club will be led by Mrs. Warner on Friday lunchtimes from 1:05 pm in the Prep playground. The students will gain a number of different skills, both physical and social. Sand play is very tactile and helps children learn about textures, develop fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Please contact Mrs. Warner for more information at mwarner@clayfield.qld.edu.au.

ISCF Club

This session will be led by Mrs. Patterson on Friday lunchtimes from 1:05 pm in Room 122 for students in Years 3 to 6. The students will share and reflect upon a short Bible message before engaging in games and activities to build connections and foster relationships. Please contact Mrs. Patterson for more information at cpatterson@clayfield.qld.edu.au.

We look forward to your child participating in the Clubs program throughout Term 3. Further, we hope these additions to our Extra Curricula Program will provide students with quality opportunities to develop their skills during some fun, friendship-building activities. Unless otherwise advised, please note that all clubs will run up to and including the second last week of term.
