Sign up for the Semester 2 Dance Program!

The Melbourne Girls’ College Co-Curricular Dance Program involves dance classes in Contemporary and Commercial Jazz/Hip Hop styles. Within these classes, students work with teachers and industry professionals to develop their dance technique and performance skills. Each semester the classes culminate in a performance evening where students get the opportunity to perform their routines for their families and friends. The program also offers acrobatic classes where students can develop their strength, flexibility and acrobatic skills. The MGC dance program is an excellent experience for students. It’s a great way to make new friends and develop confidence and self-esteem. Students do not need prior dance experience to join, just a positive attitude and willingness to try their best!

Year 7 Performance

Year 7 Performance classes have been working on their whole class collaborative performances this term, based on the theme of “Celebrations”. They had to create a 10 minute performance from scratch, and chose their specialist area, which could be directing, acting, scriptwriting, dancing, choreographing, playing an instrument or being responsible for sound, projections, lighting, costume and/or makeup design, props or being backstage crew. On Monday, 6th June, 7R2 (Birthdays)and 7M2 (Graduation) got to perform at the Richmond Theatre and on Tuesday, 7th June, it was 7C1 (Halloween) 7M1 (New Year’s Eve) and 7M3’s (Valentine’s Day) turn!

Congratulations to all students involved who did a fantastic job and thank you to their teachers for this amazing opportunity to perform in a professional theatre:

Mr Evans, Ms Mumme, Ms McGeechan and Ms Corry.

A special thank you to Emily Miller, our Year 7 Year Level leader, for all her help on Tuesday supervising students and to all teachers who covered our classes and to our daily organizer, Jeanette Bathgate.

We look forward to being able to perform in our new auditorium back at MGC in Semester 2.

Anne Corry

Teacher in Charge.

Vocal Showcase

With splashes of pink, exciting melodies and harmonies and a wide range of voices and genres, Semester One's Vocal Showcase on 2nd June skyrocketed with a blast. Thanks to Anne Corry and our amazing Vocal teachers,  Ellyce Calder, and Susan De Jong, we had a beautiful night that was organised, prepared, and rehearsed countless times for. Much thanks to all the performers, (choirs, duos, trios, and solos) for without you, there would be no reason in going. The indoor plants in the library made for a pleasant setting to sing in front of, however, we are hoping for a fully built auditorium to perform in next semester!

See you then :)

Year 12 Music Evening

On Wednesday 8th June, the Year 12 music performance students got the opportunity to perform two of our pieces to a live audience for our formal performance evening. We all had a great time and found it really helpful in preparation for our end of year performance exams. Thank you so much to Ms Corry, Kat Halliday and Ellyce Calder for assessing us and organising the night and thank you to all the parents and carers who came to support us! We look forward to performing next semester in our new Auditorium!

Year 9 Actors Workshop

Our last few classes of the year 9 Actors Workshop were spent with Laura Brent, a visitor who taught our class various improvisation methods in an improvisation workshop! We practised group work and easy methods for developing ideas with other actors using enjoyable drama games such as "What are you doing?" and "You know why you're here." Thank you very much, Laura!

Drama this semester has been incredibly engaging, confidence-building, and enjoyable! It's been a terrific class for meeting new people and being creative, since we've spent our classes brainstorming new ideas and presenting them to our classmates.
