Year 10 Mock Job Program

If you could feel the nervous energy in the air from lunchtime onwards on Thursday 26th May, that would be credited to the Year 10 Mock Job Interviews.

The Year 10s in Term 2 focus heavily on Careers programs. In between working On their Career Action Plans and the Careers Fasttrack Program, Year 10s participate in the Mock Job program.

During their Wellbeing classes, students learn how to create a CV and write an effective cover letter addressing Key Selection Criteria. Students are asked to pick one of 18 mock job advertisements and apply for the role, putting their CV and cover letter lessons to good use.

Here’s an example of some of the mock jobs on offer.

Seventy-six students were then shortlisted to interview for the 18 jobs. The students were interviewed by volunteers from the Rotary Club of Richmond and community members and then given constructive feedback about their CVs, applications and interview skills. These volunteers have a vast array of industry knowledge and their feedback is valuable.

All students who participated in the interview program did themselves proud. Feedback from the interviewers included key words and phrases such as “confident”, “leadership qualities”, “impressive CV”, “excellent”,  and ”Best group I’ve ever interviewed”!

Congratulations to all who took part- it was a positive experience which students can now build on to take into the real world on their career journey!
