Ways we are building a reading culture at BSC

Wheelers ebooks and audiobooks

The library is doing a 10 week trial of an audiobook/ebook platform called Wheelers. Students have been sent their login details and password. Here is the link to the platform should you want to have a look: https://brightonsc.eplatform.co/

Students can download the books onto a phone, tablet or laptop. If there is enough interest, we will purchase a yearly subscription.

Premiers' Reading Challenge

This year we are taking part in the Premier’s Reading Challenge. The Challenge requires students to read 15 books between March and September and upload the titles to the VPRC website.  We have already had 32 students sign up in Yrs 7-9. If your child would like to sign up, let them know to come and talk to me in the library.

The Readers’ Cup

At the end of Term 3 we will be holding our annual Readers’ Cup. This is one of the highlights of the year for us in the library. Our first Readers’ Cup was held in 2007, so this would be our 16th event if Covid hadn’t prevented us from running it the past two years. The event involves students getting into teams of 4 and team members will read four novels over the course of the term and then come together for an evening event for a quiz and a creative round. We have six teams signed up already.  If you would like to enter please come to the library to sign up.
