HUMANITIES WEEK

MS MONIQUE WATT - CURRICULUM LEADER HUMANITIES AND TECHNOLOGY

It was a busy week at St Mary MacKillop College last week where we celebrated all things about Humanities. On Tuesday students were involved in a Hieroglyphics decoding activity at lunch time with many students participating to crack the code.

On Wednesday students showed their creative talents by learning the art of Calligraphy.

Thursday was a very busy day with two Money Markets and Citizenship classes running their small businesses. Students were lined up ready to buy some of the great items ranging from chips and gravy, sausages, brownies, lollies, fruit salad, pizza, Anzac biscuits and candles. This Market Day enables students to learn about how to run a business and they enjoy the process of selling their products to their peers. All profits made will be donated to charities.

Medieval Day

On Friday the 20th of May, the Year 8s attended a Medieval history day. This day included a variety of lessons about the education of the Medieval European society that included games, dances, fashion and Medieval Japan. The day also included interactive activities where we were able to dress in Medieval armour as we were pretending to fight at war.  We took part in participating and handling Medieval weapons and how to use them correctly during battle. Overall the day was informative and was fun to learn in a different setting. We thank the presenters for coming to our school.

Our final Humanities session was a challenge involving country/continent puzzles which helped showcase students skills in Geography.

Many thanks to all of the students who participated in these activities and a special thanks to the teachers that ran the activities.
