Term 2: Career News

Term 2 has started as the term of expos it would appear. Expos are a great way for students to connect with industries, meet industry professionals and collect information and answers to many of their career questions.  In the first week of term, our Year 11s and 12s attended the VCE and Career Expo, one of the biggest career expos in the city.

This is a great opportunity for students to dive a bit deeper into the opportunities that are available to them after high school. Fortunately, students will have the opportunity to reconnect with many of the universities, TAFEs and apprenticeship/traineeship groups when the college hosts our small career expo in early August, around the same time as VTAC applications are open.

Several students also attended the industry expo hosted by the BGKLLEN.  This was an expo centred more around trades and TAFE courses and provided some good insight into alternative further education options.  There were some fun, interactive booths and the Bunnings sausage sizzle was a crowd favourite.

Finally, it was really exciting that SOC could be a part of the inaugural Women in Trades and Tech expo that took place at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre in Week 4.  This was an informative and interactive event and it was great to see many young women come together and to hear from all the strong women who are carving paths for themselves in what are predominantly male-dominated industries.  We had Year 10 and 11 students attend from our Girls in STEM club who are also interested in pursuing a trade.
