Senior School

Over the course of this past week we have been privileged in the Senior School to have enjoyed this year’s Senior Production, Illuminate.

After such a long, COVID-affected season it was a real pleasure to see our wonderful young people take to the stage to sing, play and dance.

We also enjoyed outstanding performances of Romeo and Juliet Reimagined, and Iolanthe performed by Year 10 and 12 Drama students respectively. Congratulations to our wonderful performers and also the dedicated staff team for their months of hard work to bring together such a wonderful show. As our Head of Performing Arts, Mrs. Cindy Pecovnik, noted in her introduction, the Performing Arts has a way of bringing us together as a community, and I know this was the experience of everyone who attended.

On a more pragmatic note, a number of parents have contacted me in recent days to discuss articles published in major newspapers about the risks the mis-use of technology may pose to young people and their learning. Please be aware that we have strict rules in place at School to ensure that our students use technology appropriately. Specifically, students in Years 7 and 8 are asked to place their phones in lockers between 8:30am and 3:00pm, and Years 9 to 12 have the freedom to have their phones with them but are not to use them in classes under any circumstances and at Recess or Lunch only to make work or urgent family arrangements. Phones used inappropriately will be confiscated by staff and if the behaviour is repeated, parents may be asked to attend the School to collect them. We believe that young people learn responsibility best when we allow them to gradually experience the opportunity to make sensible choices.

I encourage parents to speak with their children about safe and responsible use of technology and to speak with Tutors should you have specific concerns.
