Principal's Message

Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

It is also a good time to re-familiarise ourselves with The Uluru Statement from the Heart. The newly elected federal government has said that this will be a priority. A great introductory video, from The Uluru Statement website is below:

Biggest Morning Tea

Thank you to families for your generous donations of cakes and slices for our Biggest Morning Tea last week. The SRC were overwhelmed with support and raised much needed funds for cancer research.

P&C

Our first P&C meeting for 2022 was a small, but successful meeting, electing Janet Pritchard-Pelasio to the role of President and Jessica McDonnell as Vice President. We are still looking for a Treasurer and and Secretary. If you are interested, please call the front office.

The P&C would like to welcome new parents and gather all parents together to meet, greet and offer support. Come along Monday 30 May at 2:30 for some coffee and cake in support of parents involvement in our school.

Uniform

Jumpers and jackets are available from our Uniform Shop - every Friday morning 9-9:30am, or by contacting the front office (ph: 9637-1562). Jumpers are $20 and Zip-jackets $35.

Hat's are also available for $15.

Winter Flu Season

Over the last couple of weeks, we have seen an increase in COVID-19, Influenza A and general ‘flu-like’ symptoms among staff, students and community members.

All of our staff have been offered a free flu shot - a doctor from Delwood medical centre came out to school and provided flu shots a few weeks ago. Of course, all staff are vaccinated with 2 does, some 3.

A reminder for students and families - the best way to protect your family this winter is get a flu shot. If you have a child aged 6 months or over, you are strongly encouraged to vaccinate them against flu this season.

Advice from NSW Health:

  • Get  a flu shot
  • Stay home if you are sick
  • Sneeze into your elbow
  • Wash your hands regularly.

  COVID close contact rules for schools:

  • notify the school if anyone in your house is COVID-19 positive;
  • students who are close contacts are required to do a daily rapid antigen test (RAT) each morning before attending school for 5 school days;
  • parents are required to notify the school of the RAT result each day;
  • whilst at school it is recommended that students who are a close contact wear a mask indoors (except when eating or exercising);
  • no student or staff member identified as a close contact will be permitted to participate in overnight excursions, including school camp;
  • any visitor/volunteer who is a close contact is required to advise the school that they are a close contact before they come on site. These visitors should conduct a daily RAT and return a negative result before attending (they must also wear a mask indoors at all times).

Thank you to parents who are keeping their child/children home when unwell, even though they are returning negative RATs.

Every student will receive another 5 RAT kits (supplied by the Department of Education) to bring home this week.

Thank you for helping keep our school community safe.
