Student achievements

Congratulations to the following students:

Micah Couacaud (Prep) who read 75 books in the MS Readathon in the month of August raising an amazing $534.

 

Claire Ransom (Year 9) who was selected for the All Star Australian Indigenous AFL Team, living the life of an AFLW player at the Gold Coast Academy last week.

 

Caylin Daley (Year 7) who came 1st in the Enduro Series Championship, and a 1st in the Grasstrack Series Championship for MERC. This was a great result for her second year racing motorbikes.

 

Phoebe Dobson (Year 8) who participated in the Junior Water Polo Competition in Ballarat. Phoebe and her Honey Badger team fought hard to win Silver in Under 14s.

 

Grace Willis (Year 5) who participated in the National Musical Theatre Festival called Junior Theatre Celebration Australia (JTCOZ) in Newcastle. Grace has also been selected to join the Aussie All Stars Team who will tour the USA in January 2021. Read more about Grace's experience here.

 

Congratulations to the thirty-four students from Year 3 – 10 participated in the University of New South Wales ICAS English competition. A special mention goes to the students who achieved the following results:

High Distinction (top 1% in Australia): Isabella Cox (Year 10) and Jasmine Williams (Year 4).

Distinction (top 10% in Australia): Lara Vincent (Year 10), Emily Walter (Year 9), Caitlin Marr (Year 9), Madeleine Young, Kasota Clayton and Margot Henry (all of Year 8), Grace Marshall (Year 6), Imogen Croall,  Lucy Pinelli and Hayley Newsham-West (all of Year 4), Lucy Breen, Mia Brooks and Jorgia Eyles (all of Year 3).

 

Students who won awards in the Tasmanian Science Talent Search 2019:

Upper Primary Division, Second Prize: Sofia Lumb (Year 6).

Upper Primary Division, Encouragement Award: Grace Marshall and Amber Walter ( Year 6).

Junior Secondary Division, Merit Award: Mia Chrisie-Johnston, Isabella Thurley and Varaidzo Marunda (Year 8).

Junior Secondary Division, Encouragement Award: Kasota Clayton and Madeline Young (Year 8)

Intermediate Secondary Division, Merit Award: Georgia Chambers, Jade Hay, Shreya Karunakara and Luzie Gillard (Year 10).

Intermediate Secondary Division, Encouragements Award: Neve Mason and Natalie De Cesare (Year 10).

Senior Secondary Division, Merit Awards: Sophie Williams (Year 11). Sophie's investigation has also been selected for state entry into the BHP Billiton Science Awards.

 

Students who who participated in the 2019 Tasmania All School Championships. Bonnie Bowden (Year 9) achieved Personal Best performances in each of her three events. She also received a gold medal in the Under 16 Long Jump with a jump of 5.28m. Isobel Gray (Year 6) won Gold in the High Jump, Silver in the Combined Event (points accumulated from 110m, 800m, Shot Put and Long Jump), and 4th place in 12 years old girls 100m. Mackenzie Graves (Year 5) won Gold in the 11 year old girls High Jump, Silver in the 11 year old girls Combined Event, and Bronze in the 11 year old girls Shot Put. Holly Richardson (Year 5) won Bronze in the 11 year old girls Discus.
