Celebration of Learning

Year 8 Visual Literacy

Personal Learning Presentations

Years 7-8 Personal Learning Presentations, fantastic reflections on learning progress and goals for 2020. Thank you to the many families who made time to attend a Learning Presentation in weeks 7 and 8 this term. All Stage 4 students completed the end of year reflection on learning in 2019 and setting goals for 2020, and all are expected to upload it to Google Classroom during Personal Best time.  Those who presented to  a family and staff member were presented with a certificate to include in their portfolio. Staff participating in the Learning Presentations all agree what a valuable process it is for learning. Students and families are invariably and deservedly proud of achievements recorded in the Learning Presentations.  The importance of strong relationships with teachers was reinforced with so many students commenting on how teacher inspired, explained and expected them to improve!  Another key feature of the Learning Presentations is the importance of a strong sense of connection to the school community - it was heartening to hear of collaboration in the classroom, as well as the many leadership, sporting and performing arts extra-curricular activities which are the basis of connection to school.

French Elective

The winners each received a $20 Apple I-tune gift card.

The competition grew out of an idea put forward by Sophia Carlson, Year 9, who suggested the class view a You-tube clip called  Si t'as été à Tahiti by  Albert De Paname because:  a) it was funny and musical and b) it would help us with our French pronunciation.

Students from all year groups learning French viewed songs and chose their favourite to submit. Each class then viewed the entries for their group and voted for the item they liked best.

Balance ton Quoi was the winner.  Students said they loved its serious message against sexism and for respect. The delivery was punchy but good humoured. The music was full-on and rollicking. It got a lot of laughs. (View the clip on You- tube).

The popular runner-up item was the Alain le Lait’s colourfully animated clip of the well-known French nursery ryme Alouette (the lark). Many class members felt they had to jump up and athletically mimic the actions in time to the jazzy beat. Thanks to Elise Green, Year 8, for finding and nominating this item.

Classic French numbers were also represented and some students were heard humming the refrain to Edit Piaf’s  La Vie en Rose (choice of Mieke Van Wel, Year 10) and Non, Je ne Regrette Rien (Aysha Ayoubi, Year 8).

The French teachers: Ms Mavris and Ms McLean were good losers when their “golden oldies” Douce France by Charles Trenet and Les Bonbons by Jacques Brel failed to score.
