The Lalor Secondary College community warmly congratulates Corey Jewell, who has again been asked to step into a regional position for the Department of Education as the Acting Senior Education Improvement Leader role for the Banyule / Nillumbik area within the North Western Victoria region. We wish Corey the best. His appointment will run from the 19th of August until the 6th of September, during this time I have accepted the honour in stepping into the role of Acting Principal. Chris Danher will take on the role of Acting Assistant Principal.

All Parent Information evenings, which assisted students and their families with the subject choices for the 2020 academic year, have now been completed. Subject selections should have been submitted online by families so that the programming /planning for next year can be commence. Please check in with your child to ensure that they have submitted their final subject forms to the general office. If your child has not been involved in the subject selection process, please contact your relevant sub -school leader as a matter of urgency, as your child may miss out on elective preferences, or preferred course pathway for next year.

I would like to highlight the importance of attendance and punctuality at school. As mandated by the education department, the college follows up daily on absences. To make the most out of their education, students need to be on time to school and classes with all their materials ready to learn. I would like to remind students that punctuality to class is in their best interest, as the key to success at school is regular attendance. It is crucial that students are not late as not only can this interrupt the learning of others but it means that they are missing vital instructional time. Please support the college in this matter by ensuring that your child leaves for school to be present by 8.30 and ready for first class by 8.40. Traffic issues are common in our neighbourhood, so please allow adequate time to avoid any unforeseen delays.

Last Friday evening I had the pleasure of attending the annual year 10 Formal at the grand Normanby House. The event was a huge success, with students and staff enjoying a fantastic night with lots of great music and dancing.  The students looked gorgeous and I was impressed by their impeccable behaviour and maturity.  All of those who attended were very proud to be part of the Lalor Secondary College community.  These evenings don’t just happen, they take lots of planning, I would like to thank Chris Danher, Tony Wilkinson and Isaac Mercado for their organisation of the night, and to thank the staff who attended the evening to support our students.
