Evans High VET teachers and two Year12 students attended the 2019 Schools Industry Partnership Annual Industry Placement Awards held on Tuesday night the 17 September.

The Schools Industry Partnership encourages schools and businesses to work together to help young people reach their true potential through authentic workplace opportunities. The Awards night is a major event in the yearly calendar for the Penrith Schools Industry Partnership (SIP) and celebrates the outstanding achievement of Year12 students from across Western Sydney. The evening also recognises and congratulates leading businesses and community partners that freely give their time to work with schools and help prepare students for future careers.

 

In NSW students who undertake vocational courses at school are required by NESA to demonstrate they can deliver industry specific skills in a real work placement. Evans High VET students have all undertaken 70 hours of work placement across years 11 and 12 with outstanding success.

 

Students from Evans High year 12 who were awarded a regional “Certificate of Excellence” for outstanding participation in Vocational Education & Training (VET) during Work Placement in 2019 were:

 

Mohamed Mahmoud was recognised for his excellence in studying Certificate II in Construction Pathways with Mr Rudd, seen here receiving his award from Mr Compton, Principal Bede Polding College.

Dilshad Ali was recognised for his achievements in Certificate II in Hospitality (Food & Beverage) with Mrs Rani, pictured here receiving his certificate from Ms N Tunica, Principal Blaxland High school.

Dilshad Ali was also recognised for his achievements in Certificate I in Engineering with Mr Loughran, pictured here being presented with his certificate from Mr Foord, Principal Nepean CAPA High School.

 

Evans High congratulates Dilshad and Mohamed for their awards of excellence and all VET teachers who have supported them throughout their vocational training.

 

Year 12 VET students are commended for their work over the past two years in gaining dual accreditation alongside their HSC.

 

All Year 12 VET students will achieve a Statement of Attainment and approximately 80% will also attain their Certificate I or II in their respective VET course which included Certificate II in Construction Pathways, Certificate II in Hospitality (Food & Beverage) and Certificate I in Engineering

SIT20316 Certificate II in Hospitality

MEM10105 Certificate I in Engineering

VET - Live Production and Events: Entertainment

Live Production and Events – Entertainment is a new VET course for Evans in 2019 and our Head Teacher CAPA – Mr Thomas Fienberg is the trainer for the course.

 

Pictured is Luka from Year 11 Entertainment undertaking a one day work placement with Penrith SIP at the recent “Inspiring the Future: Careers in Construction” day held in Blacktown.

Luka and another three year 11 Entertainment students (Live Production and Events) will be working as general crew assistants at the upcoming NSW Schools Spectacular event.

VET - Hospitality, Food & Beverage

Hospitality, Food & Beverage students have catered for various events at the school including the athletics and cross country carnivals and held a dinner events with families and staff this term where the students cooked and served their parents/carers and family members a wonderful 3 course meal.

VET - Metals and Engineering

VET Metal students  are provided with real life experience undertaking maintenance jobs on school premises under supervision of Mr Loughran. The fence near the front office was removed and re-installed. Raw material was fabricated  to an industrial quality steel fence. It involved measuring, calculating, quoting and comparing if it should be sub-contracted and ordering materials. Other maintenance jobs are routinely  carried out by senior students which provides them with opportunity to learn key skills required in the industrial industry as well as plan their career paths and fulfill required competencies.

VET - Construction

The VET Construction class have made some valuable contributions to the school while at the same time learning valuable real life skills. They have designed, constructed and installed a kitchen in the TAS staff room. This included creating a floor plan and submitting it to the TAS staff for approval. They have also prepared a site and laid a concrete slab at the rear door of the Metal and Engineering workshop.​

 

VET - Sports Coaching

Sports Coaching students have been undertaking their work placement hours on a regular basis by supporting staff and students during Friday Sports periods. They support by organising and packing up sports equipment for each event and assist by refereeing or umpiring games and provide coaching support during this time. Students have also support Walters Road Public School with their sporting events, again through organisational, judging and coaching activities. Students will soon complete their First Aid as part of the course this term.
