Deputy Principals' Reports

Deputy Principal (Years 8, 10, 12)

Mrs Kerry Doyle

It is with great pleasure that I congratulate the 60 students graduating from Evans High School this year. It is also with great confidence that I congratulate many who are now employed and pursuing their dreams which did not necessarily include a Year 12 education.

Year 12 celebrated the end of formal schooling with their formal on Tuesday evening, and on Thursday September 26th students graduated from High School. Higher School Certificate Examinations start next term and timetables have been issued and published online. It will be with a heavy heart, yet a glint of excitement that I will farewell my first Year 12‘s as Deputy Principal. Thank you to these students who have impacted my learning so much.

Year 10 have had some wonderful opportunities of late with a group attending a construction careers and apprenticeship program in Blacktown last Wednesday, as well there has been wonderful entrepreneurial activities being undertaken in Commerce elective and some excellent foods being prepared in Food Technology. It has been a busy time for assessment tasks and I ask that parents assist their children in organising their work to ensure they have tasks completed on time. All task submission dates can be found in the Assessment Handbooks, many teachers are using Google Classrooms now and this is providing easy access to online documents.

Year 8 is a very difficult time for many students, issues with identity, belonging, feeling anxious and finding that learning has become more challenging. Students express this in different ways and we ask that parents speak with their children about how they are feeling, encourage their children to be offline early in the evening and not have their phones and technology in their bedrooms. Parents and students can engage in external services such as Blacktown Adolescent and Community Centre (BACC), Junaya Family Services, PCYC Blacktown or one of the many programs in our local area aimed to support our youth.

Finally, there is a huge number of amazing programs and activities to enrol your child into, don’t forget that the Government extended their vouchers for sports and activities through the Creative Kids and Active Kids vouchers. There is some amazing art, dance and physical activities which run short courses over the holidays that could see you engage your child in something that will assist them in being away from technology for some time and give them the opportunity to develop new skills and improve upon their personal well-being.

Year 6 Parent-welcome classes are being planned, there will be some transition lessons and orientation days to meet your children as well as information being posted home in the coming weeks. We look forward to your interaction with our school and if you have any questions about transitioning to high school please email the school or phone us. No question is silly, and as a first time high school parent myself this year I can assure you that there is a huge amount to learn!

Term 3 is ending and we are farewelling many of our students, for many of you there will be examinations and school reports to look forward to as well as assessment tasks and a lot of report writing for teachers. I know that I am feeling overwhelmed by it being this far into the year already so I wish everyone a happy Term 4 as we finalise yet another term of learning at Evans High School.
