A message from the Principal

Ms Nerina Pretlove

Over the past week, we have been recognising one of those critical life markers for our Year 12 students. As they transition to a new phase in life, the Class of 2019 have been reflecting on the past, celebrating successes and looking to the future. The final celebrations of the big day out at Luna Park, the Formal and the Graduation Ceremony have provided them with the opportunity to spend time, share lots of laughter and a tear or two with each other and the wider school community. The speeches at the Graduation reflected the power of their friendships, their strong partnerships with their teachers and the wealth of experiences that have prepared them to walk out the gate into a new life. We acknowledge all the teachers, educational support personnel and their Year Advisers Ms Abawi and Dr Khunger and Year 12 Deputy Principal, Ms Doyle who have contributed to the development of these young people since they entered their education way back in kindergarten to today. Congratulations to the Class of 2019!

As one group leaves, another emerges.  We congratulate the students who have been elected as our incoming senior leaders. Early next term, for the first time, we will be electing the Year 10 Captains. Following a rigorous process these senior student leaders will be taking us into 2020:

Likewise, our present Year 11 students will commence their Year 12 studies on return from the coming holidays. From day one Term 4, the focus will be on the end goal of completing their studies. Success at the HSC level is about consistency, meeting deadlines and there is a direct correlation between attendance and high achievement. Regular revision, the day of the lesson, revisiting the work the next week, the next month and then again in the adjoining school holidays will support the development of long term memory.  Every assessment task must be completed on time to achieve the maximum number of marks. At the same time, students will need to build in some down time where they can relax and refresh themselves. They should also take advantage of all the opportunities that their teachers and the school provides them to negotiate their studies and wellbeing. As the current Year 12 students will tell them, it is all over so quickly!

On a sad note our condolences go to Jeremy and Tyrone and their family on the recent loss of their father. Our thoughts are with them in this time of grief and loss.

As we merge out of winter, enjoy the warmth and sunshine, have a wonderful Term 3 break, refuel and return ready to be your best selves.
