Student Reporting in 2020

Senior School Parents should be aware that this year we will be changing the way we report student academic progress and individual Effort and Dedication.

Last year, we introduced Continuous Reporting for students undertaking Unit 3 and 4 subjects, so some parents will already be familiar with the concept of providing continuous, rather than interim, reports on their child. Feedback from parents who received Continuous Reporting last year was very positive.

This year, for all Year 10 to Year 12 students, we will be regularly using the school portal, ASTRA, to publish feedback to parents and students regarding assessment tasks undertaken, in addition to comments regarding student effort and dedication. During this transition period, some Teachers in the lower year levels may also be using Astra to give feedback to parents and students.

The new reporting process intends to provide parents and students with more timely feedback to assist student learning. Research shows that academic feedback is strongly and consistently associated with achievement, providing clear goals and a mechanism for improving student confidence and self-awareness.

For most subjects, each time students undertake any specific assessment task, the subject teacher will provide written feedback on the task and the grade achieved. Feedback on general progress will be provided twice per term, including a summary of your child’s effort and dedication to the subject in general.

Each semester you will continue to be sent a printed summary of these general reports for each subject including an effort and dedication summary. The exception is students undertaking Units 3 and 4 subjects who will receive one printed report at the end of the year, when their Unit 3/4 courses are complete.
