Student Leadership Positive Change Project 2019

The Student Leadership team are continuing the Amari Sponsorship Program and would like to introduce our Winter Clothing Drive.

Amari Sponsorship Program

The Amari sponsorship program is based on your generous donations and the money goes towards educating and sponsoring children in Uganda, Africa who aren’t as privileged as us.

The sponsorship cost for each child is $70 a month which totals $840 a year. Children are required to bring at least a 50 cent donation per month, in order for this project to succeed. As more and more money adds up, the child that is being sponsored in the Amari school will receive more money for education, food and associated costs.

Everyday, student leaders will be coming to your child’s class at lunch eating time to collect the money in jars. These donations will be sent straight to the Amari School in Uganda. Each year level will sponsor a different child. Here are the children being sponsored:

Preps/Year 1 - Jonan

Year 2 - Fatuma

Year 3 - Godfrey

Year 4 - Wanguichi

Year 5 - Brandar

Year 6 - Owen and Chance

A little bit of your spare change can go a long way towards sponsoring children like us in another part of the world.

Winter Clothing

Winter Clothing Drive

The Student Leadership Team are launching a project that is part of our Positive Change Project for 2019. Our idea is to host a Winter Clothing Drive. The two organisations we are donating to are ‘Heat the Homeless’ and the ‘Avalon Centre’s Mobile Clothing Service’. These charities focus on getting second-hand donations of winter clothing and items and giving them to the homeless. The clothes donated by Mount View families will be given to homeless people.

There are over 24,000 Victorians and 116,000 Australians who are homeless on any given day according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics. The initiative of our project is to support Australians who have found themselves living on the streets this winter. The charities’ goal is to collect as many of these warm, winter clothing items as possible.

How you can help

It would be greatly appreciated if you could help these people by donating a few of your unwanted winter items.

This could include:

Winter jackets

Scarves

Beanies

Gloves

Blankets

Sleeping bags

Toiletries (unused)

Ski jackets

Jumpers

Coats

*Please note that all items MUST be washed and cleaned before being sent to school.

All clothing donations can be sent to the Senior Learning Centre or given to Year 6 students who will visit every class in the school. We hope that you can give a donation of clothing and support the many people living on the streets. Your small donation will make a BIG difference.

Thank you,

The Student Leadership Team
