Welcome to the 2019 School Year

A warm welcome is extended to first-time students, parents and staff to the College.

I trust that families have enjoyed a relaxing break and that students are refreshed and ready for the new year. Throughout this first week, it has been lovely to meet all the students and watch them settle into the routines of school.

I look forward to working closely with families, fostering positive relationships and communication between parents, students and teachers. The staff have been working hard in preparation for the students to begin and much planning has gone into ensuring students feel welcomed and engaged in their learning.

The Cumberland staff are dedicated and committed to the education of children and work hard to provide a challenging and supportive learning environment catering for the needs of all students.  I am very honoured to be part of such a team.

The 2019 Cumberland Homeroom staff are:

  • Year 3A – Miss Felicity Donohue & Ms Isabel Monroy
  • Year 3S – Mr Joshua Sibley
  • Year 4A - Ms Hannah Petterson & Mrs Anne Adams
  • Year 4C - Mr Daniel Catoggio
  • Year 5K - Mr Nigel Keegan
  • Year 5M - Ms Samantha McAdam
  • Year 6A - Mrs Emma Dowling & Mr Ron Rees
  • Year 6K - Miss Maria Koullas

Communication with School

Communication between home and school is very important. Your child’s teacher is the first port of call for classroom and learning related issues. I am also available to discuss student needs and concerns. The best way to communicate with teachers is via email.

Cumberland Open House

I was impressed by the fantastic attendance at the Open House afternoon on Wednesday. Despite the heat, parents, students and teachers chatted and got to know each other in a relaxed environment, sharing laughter and lots of food. The staff and I were grateful for the opportunity to meet many of the Cumberland families and look forward to meeting those who could not attend. It was a positive atmosphere and a great way to celebrate the first week back to school.

Cumberland Information Evening

The Cumberland School Information Evening is scheduled for Tuesday 19 February at 7.30pm in the Chapel and Performing Arts Centre. The session will provide parents with the opportunity to meet their child’s Homeroom teacher and discuss home and school expectations. It is important that parents attend, as it reinforces College procedures and ensures a smooth transition for the children.

Parent Helpers Information Session

The College is offering Fairview and Cumberland School parents the opportunity to partake in the Parent Helpers’ Information Session. It will outline the program requirements and how parents can actively be involved in the College life. Parents who do not attend the session cannot assist in the classroom. The session is scheduled for Tuesday 26 February, from 6.00pm to 7.00pm in the College Library. Interested participants can email admin@aitkencollege.edu.au by Friday 22 February.
