Jon Madin Workshops

The biggest news this week is the fantastic Jon Madin Workshops which were held in the Music rooms F1 and F2 and outside the canteen! Jon was here for 2 days playing his great music and crazy fun instruments he has invented. Jon is a highly respected musician and inventor, and takes his ideas all over the world. The workshops were available to all students and were very popular with Years 7, 8 and 9.  We also did some note building – this time of F# and Bb – to enable us to play more pieces on the Marimbas.

On Wednesday we were visited by Sarah and Paul from Vic Uni who are doing  documentary on Jon’s work in schools and were keen to film him in action. This film will be shown at a Music Teacher’s Conference in Melbourne in January, of which Ms Ryan is the President of the association.

Students attending the workshops were given a permission form to be signed from home to allow taking part in the filming. Please return this to Ms Ryan if you haven’t already done so. The documentary is expected to be completed before the end of term, and Ms Ryan has been invited to view the film before the final edit, plus we hope to see it at McGuire.  Jon also presented a day of workshops at Bourchier Street Primary School for Foundation and Year One students as part of this project. They were lots of fun.  Both McGuire College and Bourchier Street would like to thank the Fairley Foundation for their financial support which enabled Jon Madin Week in Shepparton!

Mercy Aged Care

While on marimbas, the Marimba Ensemble is entertaining at Mercy Aged Care on Wednesday, December 4. Students have revised some pieces at lunchtimes and in Percussion and Year 7 class lessons. Students playing for this event need to return a signed permission form for the bus travel.

Year 9 Instrumental Music

Year 8 students who plan to play in bands next year at the Year 9 Campus at Mooroopna Secondary College are invited to a Big Play with the other high schools at Mooroopna next Wednesday afternoon as part of the transition program. See Ms Ryan if you would like to go.

Instrumental Music for 2020

The Music teachers between of the Greater Shepparton Secondary College  have been meeting regularly and made some decisions to enable a smooth transition for musicians.

Instrument Hire – is available to those students already enrolled. However, enrolment must take place this year in order to secure your instrument. Students may keep the same instrument. If you are not enrolling, your instrument MUST be returned to the school.

Instrument Audit – will take place at each school. At McGuire College,

all Concert Band instruments will be audited on December 11, 12 and 13 for students in Year 7-9.

Senior students who finish school earlier must complete their audit before they finish classes (December 6).
