Glimpes of Mount Erin's Rich Heritage

MISSION STATEMENT

In searching for some missing Catholic icons recently, to be returned to Mount Erin Boarding, a framed early Mission Statement that was in the Heritage Centre was given to the Boarding House. Its beautiful scripted handwriting includes the following lines that are still relevant today:

"Our environment will enable ech one to grow
through  faith and hope, love and forgiveness towards a full Christian life."

"Mount Erin Boarding School

should be ' a home away from home "

Where love, caring and respect for each other prevail

giving rise to to optimism, happiness and contentment."

The Mount Erin Heritage Centre is located at Wagga Wagga in the original Mount Erin Convent which was built 1874-76. This historic site is where five Presentation Sisters from Ireland established a convent and school in 1876.

Since then several schools have existed here including St Brigid’s, St Marys, St Eugene’s, Mount Erin High School, Trinity Senior High School and presently Kildare Catholic College.

Mount Erin Boarding can trace its proud beginnings back to 1890 and is currently the residence for students attending either Kildare Catholic College or Mater Dei Catholic College.
