Curriculum

What a busy first week back in the Discovery Centre! Well done to all students and their families for making such a fantastic start to Remote Learning. We are so grateful for your flexibility and feedback, and appreciate the time taken to speak to your teachers for our parent teacher interviews last week. We were very excited to have our first Google Meet check in at 10:00am each morning where we were able to engage with the entire class.

This week in literacy students will be engaged in another Google Meet where we will run small group sessions. These will begin at 11:40am. Please see your class’s weekly schedule on Seesaw to see what day your child's small group session will be. These will run for around 20 minutes. We will also be introducing dotted thirds in our writing. The students will practise sizing their letters correctly in the dotted thirds. This can be tricky, so we will need to use our perseverance for this! The writing books that were collected last week have the dotted thirds in them, so it would greatly appreciated if you use this book for each writing task.

This week in Maths we are going to be introducing problem solving strategies. We will focus on using the strategies ‘act out the problem’ where we use different concrete materials to help solve different maths problems and the strategy ‘draw a picture’ where students will draw to help them solve different mathematical problems. This week we will be looking at using these strategies to help us solve addition problems.

On our Choosing Board this week we have a range of activities that focus on Wellbeing, Guided Inquiry, literacy, mathematics and STEM where students can challenge themselves to build a bird feeder, learn how to make a folding ice cream, play a board game and many more fun activities.

We hope you have a lovely week! Terima kasih for your ongoing support and feedback,

Foundation Teachers
