Leadership Centre

Curriculum
And just when we thought it was all over we are back online! After careful planning the Leadership Centre felt ready to tackle Remote Learning 2.0. We are quietly confident and excited because of the support, engagement and feedback the students and families shared last term with us.
The Leadership Centre’s week began with Specialist Day and checking in with their classroom teacher at 9am on Zoom. It was wonderful to see the students together again and their enthusiasm when going through the Specialist tasks for the day. While the students worked through their tasks online, the teachers spent their day calling parents and carers to discuss Semester One achievements and future goals for Term Three. Thank you to all parents who openly discussed goals, gave feedback for the term ahead. If you have not been contacted please message your classroom teacher through Sentral. Classroom teachers look forward to contacting families again in a few weeks to touch base and discuss Remote Learning.
In Literacy last week, it was exciting for students to read through and select their Book Club preferences. Once their preferences were added to the slides, teachers were able to label novels and leave outside on the benches for families to collect!
Each week, students will need to read an agreed amount of pages to complete the text over the next five weeks. In Book Club sessions this term, students will practice the reading skills of predicting & questioning, synthesizing, analysing & reorganisation, understanding the different themes and synthesizing. Happy reading!
We were really excited to see how students found the new, re-vamped Maths sessions this week. Moving into targeted groups, students began working on specific multiplication skills and strategies such as negative numbers, vertical multiplication and arrays. Students successfully navigated the new slides to locate their group and task for the day.
Students attended daily Zoom sessions that focused on teaching a skill and covering any misconceptions. On Friday, students were asked to complete a survey sharing what they enjoyed from Maths sessions this week and the feedback overall was very positive which is great, see some below!
Over the next 3 weeks we will continue to look at Multiplication before we move into division strategies.
We are introducing a new activity this term… R.I.C.E (Remote Investigate, Create, Express Program)!! Students watched a relatively clever video of Mr Shaw explaining the purpose of RICE and shared some creative and innovative ideas. We can’t wait to see what students choose as their new skill to master and we look forward to showcasing their newly learnt talent.
Terima kasih for your continued support and know that we are only an email away!
